MSR vs Jetboil - Review and Comparison

Hello,

This video provides a review of the Jetboil Flash and the MSR Windburner. I provide a quick comparison of the units, notable features and included accessories, and a quick boil test to demonstrate their performance.

My overall recommendation is the Jetboil due to cost, accessories, and performance. However, the MSR is also a great option that likely gives better wind resistance and a more refined design.

I owned a Jetboil for years. If you actually use it outdoors and not inside in a controlled wind free environment, you'll soon find out the MSR is far superior in design, and near impossible to blow out (unlike the Jetboil). The fuel consumption is actually lower with the MSR vs the Jetboil due to its burner design, add in wind and the MSR again is far superior with fuel consumption. I ditched the Jetboil for the MSR and will never go back, along with several of my hiking/camping buddies. You're paying extra for a far superior design for REAL world environments.

I'd definitely go with Jetboil over MSR all day and not only bc it's lower price but bc it's going to consume less fuel in the long run. The issue I see is MSR's burner needs time to heat up to reach its full potential bc its infrared/diffuser style burner as opposed to the JetBoil burner that's basically a naked flame that is ready to go as soon as it's lit.
With that said I'd imagine the MSR burner has a more even and possibly longer lasting heat bc of the diffuser but that's not really a positive selling point for something like this where the idea is to be able to use it and break it down fairly quickly after use, imo.
Enjoyed the video, thanks! 👍👍

It would be interesting if you put a wind component to the test. I have both units and think you have a negative bias to the MSR.

the reason msr don't give you a pot support is msr whont you to bye there pots which ties you in
But every pot as a built in pot support and the pots will cost you a harm and a leg
The reason separate pizo igniters don't work is becose of the diffuser on the burner
you need lighter or flint and steel
