Piccadilly line: new trains enter testing, and will start running in London in 2025

The first new Piccadilly line trains have entered testing – and are due to start running in London in two years.
Transport for London bosses say the 94 new trains will transform one of the Tube’s busiest lines, increasing capacity by 10 per cent.
They will also be the first deep-level “walk through” trains on the Underground - and the first with air conditioning.
A new moquette seat pattern has been designed for the trains, named Holden in honour of Charles Holden, the London Underground architect between the 1920s and 1940s who changed the face of the capital with iconic stations such as Arnos Grove and Southgate.

The S-Stock (for the Circle, District, Hammersmith & City and Metropolitan line) are the newest trains on the underground dating from 2010-2017 (in terms of introduction dates).

1:58 “It’s been years since we last had a new underground train, probably dating back to… well… I haven’t done the bare minimum of research before presenting a story on new tube trains, who do you think I am some sort of journalist?”

First new trains since the Jubilee line? What about the 2009 Victoria line stock and the S stock?

THEY ACTUALLY HAVE MOTOR SOUNDS ... seimens trains are usually really really quiet. At least I can enjoy some acceleration ambiance on these units. Funny thing is they sound very similar to the GEC motors . Just smoother

Circle/Hammersmith and City/District lines have new trains, but this would be the first new tube trains for the deeper lines.

The only problem i have with these is the windows look wrong for this train, they look too small and the bars that separate them are too thicc

1967 stock: 1968-2011
C stock: 1970-2014
D stock: 1980-2017

Have yet to retire:

1973 stock: 1975-

The most recent new deep level tube trains were the 2009 stock on the Victoria Line. It doesn’t seem like the reporter did much research for this……

No new trains since 2000? How about the H+C and Circle lines trains in 2012?

What about the 2009 Victoria trains..?

0:48 I swear for a second I thought they used Train Sim World for visualising the new train. But then, who knows, maybe it was indeed done with Unreal Engine. That would explain the similar graphics, shading, rendering etc.

If they get put in service on bakerloo line afterwards and then eventually the central line, are they gonna be differently painted and different coloured seating to match the line colour? So be brown instead of blue for bakerloo line for example?

The newest actual tube trains on the Underground are from 2009, when the original Victoria Line trains that dated from 1967 were replaced

Incorrect information here from the presenter. Both the Victoria Line (2009 stock) and the 4 subsurface lines (S stock) have newer trains than the Jubilee Line (1996 stock) -- and the Northern Line trains (1995 stock) are actually a better quality version of the same model. If they meant that the last new tube line was the Jubilee Line Extension, then this is also misleading because the Piccadilly Line is not being extended (just getting new trains), and there has been another new extension since then on the Northern Line. Also, these won't be the first air conditioned trains on the Underground -- the S stock already has air conditioning.
