I love beautiful brown furniture. I don’t care if it’s called unfashionable.
Personally, I believe beauty is always fashionable, no matter the era or color.

Malcolm's "tired" says "history, stories, personality" to me. It's a cottage and should have time-worn pieces mixed in to give it heart and warmth. Love the idea of pegs in the bedroom. The bed warmers were not left in the bed; they were skimmed under the covers, back and worth, just before the occupant jumped in. I had always read about them and was delighted to find one in an 1812 house I rented in New England. My delight was short-lived. By the time I emptied the coals out of the warmer and raced back to bed the warmth had evaporated. I decided that a critical component was having a servant to warm the bed and deal with the logistics while the mistress of the house popped right into the bed.

As an American, I'm screaming at all the wonderful furniture! We would kill for all that furniture! So jealous! And all free and saving money!

There seem to be a lot of pieces of furniture that would work well for a dresser and chair for the second bedroom. I agree with Malcolm that having a chair next to a dresser would be a great addition since there isn't a wardrobe/closet or a stand for a suitcase.

Don’t forget that one of those dressers or wardrobe can be used in a kitchen etc.. the clock is a yes. Anything put together with taste and mixed with a sense of class never goes out of style. Look at that mirror, which could go a zillion places!

I can’t imagine “brown” furniture being out of date. I have a house of cherry furniture—some relative new but many pieces are antiques that my mother collected. I love every piece of it! Especially the cherry blanket box that used to be a bed. It was turned into a blanket box so it would fit in a covered wagon that traveled from Virginia to Ohio to Texas. And then after covered wagons, it traveled to Arkansas and from there back to Virginia and now it resides in Arkansas again.

I love that you are restoring/re-using some of your family antiques. In my opinion they are priceless and gorgeous and beat any IKEA or modern furniture hands down.

I LOVE rich brown wood furniture. Always have, always will. I have a full bedroom suite (dresser, highboy, vanity, sleigh bed frame, etc) from my grandparents from the 30s/40s. It’s spread around my home with the rest of my mid century or modern decor, mixed together I think it all looks great! My guests raise eyebrows but I know they’re fascinated. 😀 As long as the drawers open/close nicely, just polish up that chest of drawers and call it a day. It has tons of character. 👍 I love these keeper house updates. So fun! Thank you!

Go for the Brown furniture, check the condition but it will be service, recycle and a tribute to the craft and workmanship that went into the pieces.

I like that the extra furniture is safely and respectfully stored for future use. I also like brown furniture and use it where ever I wish.

From my understanding, the bed warmer was not left in the bed but used rather like an iron and run over the mattress and sheets, bedspread etc. to warm everything up before you got into bed.
