I'd just like to corroborate something Greg said about "who sees what deity when they pass on". I haven't had an NDE but had a profound experience when my father died back in 1985. My family is Catholic, but I've been following Sri Aurobindo and the Mother since 1983. During the Catholic funeral service, the priest was preparing the Eucharist, and suddenly my father was standing at the altar with the Mother next to him. He looked young and healthy like he did in his 30's. The priest kept walking through them as he did his preparations. I was seeing things and kept rubbing my eyes and looking again, expecting them to not be there - but they were. Mother looked over at me and winked. I heard a voice in my head saying, "You see me as the Mother, your father sees me as the Virgin Mary. People will see the Divine in a form they are familiar and comfortable with." When the service ended, they were gone. I believe that what I experienced was real and true. What she said just made so much sense to me as that's something that a God of Love would do! Love your podcast Alex. You and your guests bring a great service to humanity. Thank you.

Iam a Hindu from India and in our culture we always believe that spiritual leaders, gurus or dead relatives appear in a dying person's vision. Thats when we know that their time has come. My father had a vision of our family guru and my late grandmother 3 days before he actually died. And he also predicted the time of his death. My mother saw my late father at the doorway a week before she passed. So i was prepared mentally for the cross over to happen any day since then. We also have numerous instances of reincarnation in our culture which have been verified to the minutest details.

Also regarding enlightened yogis and masters when they transition we don't refer to the person as dead. We say he/she left the body. Meaning the soul, which is the real essence has left the body and ascended to the higher realms of the universe. This is common knowledge to educated uneducated alike from times immemorial.

As Native American Indigenous person, our loved ones will predict their passing into the next life. My mother, during 2017 New Years, told us she won't be with us to finish out the year. She was very healthy. In her 80s, she passed her bill of health with flying colors for her age about 3 Mos before. She has told us that my dad kept visiting her often and other loved ones and relatives prior to her passing. Jan 18, 2017.

My good dudes, you're touching on precisely the question I have had a while on NDEs. In this age of the devaluing of academia, scholarship and expertise, I for one highly value your great endeavors. Just in the past year, my perspective has changed profoundly after 4 decades of being Agnostic about an afterlife. I've shocked myself with how much the NDE community has compelled me to rethink everything. I've had a long passion for the human need for faith in all cultures, and this is dead center up my alley.🕯️

I love how you have a way of letting everyone you have on your show be. You let them be who they are in their space, if you will. You allow. This is a gift you have that you demonstrate well to inspire others. You are helping to share loving light with the world. We thank you.

In my village in Nigeria, Africa, one of my grandfather's relative died. He was burried and rised from the grave carrying his burrial cloth on his shoulder and came back to the village. The whole village rejoiced and performed ritual to the Spirits with dance and folk songs welcoming him back from the death. The man lived a long life and healed many people. This is contary to Greg Shushan statement regarding NDE in Africa.

I've always felt that god comes to us at different times, to different cultures, in a way that resonates with those with those cultures. That's why there are so many variations of god/source

Super interesting. It makes perfect sense that people from village cultures would not have life reviews given how pure the quality of how they live. It also makes sense that a person sees what is comfortable for them and their belief system. Love it.

Very good interview. For anyone still sceptical on NDEs – I recommend reading Raymond Moody’s book, Life after Life – hard to believe that book was written in the 70s. With regards to the part where you discuss reincarnation, I would definitely check out interviews with Ainslie Macleod, he explains about the soul and it’s past lives – maybe have him on your show. Also the book by Miami Psychiatrist Dr Brian Weiss ‘ Same Soul, Many Bodies’ is well worth reading if you are interested in past lives of the soul. That book blew my mind!

Alex, I loved how you enriched the conversation with mentioning Albert Brooks' awesome movie Defending Your Life (42:27)! What a great example that movie is of what your conversation here was about. Your knowledge of movies is so impressive!!! Your respect for your guests, your wholehearted interest and engagement in your conversations, your knowledge, kindness, sense of humor, relaxed demeanor, your delightful personality, and of course fabulous guests, is what makes your show the absolute best!!!🌸🌹🌻

Fantastic interview. Greg really confirms with his research some of the theories I've had about why NDE experiences are similar but different. The idea that they are designed to comfort the soul makes a lot of sense. One such experience I'm familiar with involved an interview done regarding the NDE of an indigenous person from an Amazon tribe. Their NDE involved going into the after life in a canoe going up a river through what was effectively a tunnel of trees.

I found my second NDE was terrifying. But it actually purged me of grief. I was inside a ball of light and just cried and cried. I heard my own voice as a child looking for mother and father. I was a scared little child. I felt I'd be in that place crying forever. When I came back, I realised I have to release my fear of loss and my profound grief I was holding onto . So yeah not all NDEs are easy. Or peaceful.oh and there was a cord a golden/or silver cord and i pulled it and there was a pop and I came back.

Love Love Love these podcasts! Just wanted to add a note of a personal experience. Although I grew up in America in a small city in RI, with no knowledge or experience of India, I had a vision of Ganesha! When I was 39 years old I intuitively knew I was going to go to India though I had no money, and no previous desire to go there. Within a couple of weeks, I met a German citizen who invited me to go to India to study Indian classical music in Varanasi. (6 months India, 6 months Germany/Spain for three years) After my first year, I discovered I was pregnant for my daughter, Amala atc40 years old! I went back to Nantucket Island to give birth so she could have American citizenship before returning to Varanasi, India. During my pregnancy I had an incredibly beautiful vision of Ganesha the monkey God in Hindu theology. He was radiant, looked somewhat like an upright Orangutan. The hair all over his body was golden giving off rays of intense golden light. This was one of three visions I had during the pregnancy and her firsts three months. We used to end our studies every year in Varanasi by going to McLead Ganj above Dharamsala, where the Tibetans relocated when they fled Tibet. I used to meditate there in the Dalai Lama's temple. I had an experience there with a hillside of monkeys and another one with a single monkey in Varanasi. I have no idea what seeing Ganesha means. This was one of a lifetime of odd unpredictable visions that sprinkled my life from early childhood. I never mentioned them out of fear I would be labeled crazy. I was raised as a roman Catholic. I am 75 now. Last year, I moved from Connecticut to Washington state to live with my sister and write my life story after living in a homeless shelter in Connecticut last year. I drove 4000 miles alone following intuition, arriving here a few months ago and when I arrived, 25 years of unedited poetry and prose was stolen from my car. Recently I had a brain aneurysm and spent a month in a coma. My daughter, now 35 and living in Florida, sat by my bed praying to my guru for a sign I would survive. I opened my eyes. My short term memory functionality was temporarily weakened but I gained clarity on long term memories. Thank you and all your guests. I feel like I am less isolated in the reality of my strange inner life! 🎉
