This card is adapted from 'Colour and Light' by 3D Total.

This is the card I have on edges, but today I wanted to try and work traditionally just to see how my brain adapts to that challenge. I've been doing this digitally for the most part until now, and I have found it really difficult to play with good looking edge contrast there - that is, the difference between hard, firm, soft, and lost edges.

I began these by drawing them and adding value, and by the time I got to the last one, the method had totally changed.

I actually stopped thinking in lines, and instead tried to sort of bring unto focus out of the paper surface the undulations of the soft shadows, and only adding edges to help delineate the silhouette where infelt it would help.

This was done by mostly scrubbing gently in some value with a 4B pencil and then running my finger over it Kim Jung Gi does with ink.

It was fun, and I felt I had a lot more control over the way the edges worked, and this might be what my brain had been trying to do digitally and failing at.

The real world tactile ability to push and pull values makes me favour this over digital work, and for the first time the value and form pillars became one, because really they are the same thing!

These are all based on references I have on Proko.

This took just over 30 minutes, but I spent 1 hour working in graphite.
