What Makes Mexican Boxers So Great?

Mexican boxers have consistently put on some of the most exciting bouts in the history of the sport. Known for their relentless aggression, they can overwhelm opponent’s with dangerous maneuvers and tactics from the very start of the fight. McGregor famously bragged that he had turned Mayweather into a Mexican when Floyd got aggressive during the later rounds of their unprecedented boxing match. Fighters like Julio Cesar Chavez, Canelo Alvarez, and Ricardo Lopez are infamous for their incredible displays of refined ferocity in the squared circle.

You forgot to mention, Mexican boxers tend to have chins of fucking steel dude. Seriously, I have nothing but admiration for Mexican boxers, they always put on some of the best performances win or lose. I admire them a lot, their “never give up” style is seriously inspirational.

A common misconception is that Mexican style is all offence and no defence but a lot of Mexican fighters were/are deceitfully slick

You could say that for us mexicans "losing is bad but being a coward is unforgivable"

Mexico deserves to call boxing their national sport.

When I have been asked about Mexican style boxing I have always described it as aggressive defense. You have to be a master at defense to have the confidence to persistently pressure forward. Also, something that people forget is that defense and offense are two sides of the same coin: to truly understand one is to understand both.

Great video. As Mexican-American this applies to my fight style too as an armored combat fighter. Glad to see it outlined in boxing. Bought your book. Look forward to reading it.

They have a traditional Mexican fighting style, hard work, discipline not to mention and abundance of them participating in the sport some are bound to rise to that elite level

The only thing Is I always hear about the same 5/6 guys. There’s other guys like Mikey Garcia, Oscar Valdez, Jaime mungia, zurdo Ramirez, Emanuel navarrette, jose ramirez, bam rodriguez, David benavidez, Vergil Ortiz, Andy Ruiz, Mario Barrios etc. the list goes on & on

Idgaf if Mayweather beat Canelo in a match via running and hugging, Canelo is 10 times more entertaining to watch and isn’t a dirty little bitch.

They have heart and taught to move forwards in fights.

Also cesar Chavez would keep his head or move his head to the outer side of the opponents gloves when he was squaring in close to keep his head out of danger and to better set up very powerful hook.

I remember watching one of the terrible morales fight with Barrera and his corner which I believe was his dad tells him “si quieres ganar? Partase su madre” that always gives me goosebumps. Such a Mexican thing to say.
