Some extras if interested, from a fellow goldsmith :

If you use less solder, you wouldn't even need to file it away afterwards, saving both money, time and strain. Also if you do have excess solder, file it away before shaping, it will alter the shape of the ring. It might feel safer to use more solder, but you used perhaps 3x more than this ring needed!

Also when you use your finger to push that bezel down on the file, be aware that you will push more on one side than the other, so it is good to change way a couple of times so that it remains straight, or push with two fingers from above so it files straight.

Punch hole a little closer to your edge, ofc not too close, but you could easily have gotten away with a mm distance here.

When soldering a bezel to a plate, it will require less heat, time and strain on the solder if you cut it into smaller pieces and lay it evenly around the wall instead of one big piece; the heat can make it overheat and create bubbles when so large.

It looks more elegant and feels more stable with a ring where the bezel is soldered between the band, not on top.

Very good to use as much hard solder as possible!

Thank you for sharing, and the inspiration!

What a great tutorial. Just shows you that you don't need all the expensive stuff, very encouraging for someone like me who is wanting to get into silver smithing. Thank you!

I laughed so hard when you showed us where the lost gem was! 🤣 I'd like to say thank you for sharing your stories and teaching us the art of silversmithing jewerly. It has always been a dream of mine, but I never knew where to start. You have inspired me so much to finally give it a try. I have a lot to learn, but because of you, it has brought back that strong desire without hopelessness to give it a go. You and your work are absolutely beautiful! Thank you! ❤❤❤

i’ve recently learned that bezel set is one of the easiest to do and so that makes sense why this is so approachable. that’s so cool. i love connecting points of learning.

Basia, your work is so well done. I am referring your channel to my students. Your channel and your talent are a very valuable resource, and such an excellent example of good teaching. Many can do, few can teach (well). And your videos are so gorgeous to watch. 👏👏👏

This requires incredible patience and you make it look so easy! I’ve gathered all my supplies, but I had to take a break from trying because it’s so hard lol 😂 I finally have the courage to try again 2 months later

I am honestly surprised! There is so much more work than I expected. This is such an art. I’m not sure what I was expecting but there is A LOT to consider!!! 😮

that open bezel ring accents the opal beautifully! The flash tho! Great video Basia, especially love that you left in the silly moment of finding the opal on your arm.. giving "where is my phone, when you're on a call" vibes side note.... I did it! Thank you for all your tutorials and guidance, I have officially soldered my first pendant a full back, bezel set turquoise (pear cut) with a tube set Apatite facet dangle I didn't melt a single thing lol am going to learn polishing this week to finish the project, I couldn't have done so well on the first try without your channel and concisely delivered knowledge, Thank you again!!!

Can I just say that your video is so brilliantly filmed - fantastic big close ups (BCUs in filming parlance!) so useful for watching the solder flow. Love it!

I have a BA in Art Education and I was a teacher for 15 years. Unfortunately, now I am disabled, but I enjoyed this work in college and wish I could do more. Maybe I should look for a class to get started up again. Thank you.

Great video especially for a beginner. I’m looking for a good soldering kit for beginners first :)

Love these, especially the open bezel. Love the colours in opals. I must work out my ring size and save up for one of these beautiful simple rings. I watch for moonstone and Alexandrite too as those are my birthstones! I watch for a very simple bezel with moonstone and Alexandrite, but would be good with Opal as well - hubby doesn’t like Pearl s he grew up with the old adage that pearls are bad luck. These are gorgeous and I love watching the process. I’d love to try this,

Hubby had to get his wedding ring cut off and didn’t want a replacement, one day I’d love to make something from the metal of his ring. 😊😊😊

These are amazing. I have lots of great little stones for making rings but I’ve never made one before. I think I’ll have a few practice goes with copper before I think about breaking out the silver wire and sheets though. Thank you for this tutorial ✌🏼❤️💎
