You get a sub for just going straight into information and not messing around for 2-3 minutes in the beginning like most people do to waste time. This video was only 7 minutes but was the best primer on projectors I've seen. Youtubers who waste time and joke around too much should watch these videos and learn.

I read that same gizmodo article and felt the writer came off a little bitter....I think he may have been "projecting" his anger

My husband was a No 1 RADIO JOCK AND A WELL LIKED TV PERSONALITY IN NY. Your content, which is very good, sometimes just goes by too quickly; and I find myself rewinding. My husband always said, don't do a great media impersonation; instead, he said, most media students needed to constantly be reminded to... just be yourself, and success will follow.

if you
- have a dark room
- have enough space
- want a big screen
Get a projector.
If not: TV.

It was a constant battle in my head. Projector or tv. Yesterday I almost decided on the tv, for being easier to set up and other convenient things. Today, I changed my mind and started to prep my room for the only thing that makes movies great. A projector. Painted the ceiling black. I'll order a 4k projector.

I just got myself an Epson TW5650 with a 5:1 home cinema surround (though my speaker placements aren’t ideal due to the weird shape of the room), with a Pioneer VSX-934.
I’m still fiddling with my volume configurations, and I still need to mount the projector on the ceiling.

I’ve never had a setup like this before, and I absolutely LOVE IT. Just be aware that such a setup requires: ample research; decent speaker cables; proper stands and mounts; long HDMI cable (to run from projector to receiver); a good extension socket; a longer power cable than the one supplied with your projector (again, in order to reach receiver at front of room).

It’s a lot of work, and a lot of learning, and reading reviews etc. But so far, it’s been 110% worth the effort.

The fact that I can watch Jurassic Park 3D on a big screen with DTS Virtual X, in my own living room, is enough to bring tears to my eyes.

I’m currently projecting 74 inches on a white painted wall, but will be buying a 100 inch screen soon.

Can’t wait. Loving this journey of home cinema.

I've been a Hone Theater enthusiast for about 15 years. Chris, thanks for taking some fairly complex topics and making them more easily digestible. Great information!

Chris Majestic, your original video was what concluded my decision to build my HT. One of the BEST decisions I've made in my home (especially with having to stay home these past few months) and I haven't looked back! Keep doing what you do!!

Been waiting for this, I've been looking into getting a projector and came across your channel.

Went from a quite cheap Epson EH-TW3200 to an expensive 65" OLED TV (in my living room). Although the contrast is worse during the day on a projector i think the image is generally much better. Much more natural and no strange artifacts that is visible from time to time on the TV. After 3 years with the OLED im thinking about going back to a Projector.

Excellent job explaining everything there is to know about projectors in such a short amount of time. The side by side comparison of the types of projectors was especially helpful.

I dont think you mentioned "3D".
Almost every TV nowadays has eliminated 3D. Where a lot of projectors still have a 3D option.

I now recommend all your video's to my customers.
Great that you just give us the fact, not the opinionated BS that goes with.
Can you PLEASE do a video on 4:4:4 at 48ghz 12 bit which seems like a waste at the moment as most oleds are throttled at 10 bit 40ghz... it would be very helpful for clients.
Can I suggest the recent HDTV test video as a reference... love your work 😉

How odd, two days ago, I was thinking whether or not to buy a big screen, or a projector. Your older video was so informative it made me subscribe, and now you release a brand new video years later. Awesome

Great video! Covered a lot of information very quickly. As a AV integrator, I would add a couple things, though; when using an ultra short throw projector, the quality of your viewing surface is especially important. Where a standard projector can be forgiving of an irregular surface, ultra short throw projectors will highlight ripples and waves, which in turn can really mess with the geometry of the picture. Ultra short throw projectors will almost always require a tensioned viewing surface. Even if you elect to project directly on to the wall, you will need to prepare that surface to remove texture and cover with a proper white, as the angle of the light hitting it will accentuate a poor viewing surface. Also, a good test as to whether a projector is right for you is to tape a piece of white paper to the wall you intend to project on. Turn off your lights, close you curtains, etc. This white paper represents the darkest black you will ever see. There are screens to help with this and of course anything you can do to keep light from hitting the screen will do wonders. Of course sometime sacrificing video quality and accuracy for giant picture that takes up the whole wall is just fun enough.

Very well put together Channel. The anchor is energetic yet not overwhelmingly hyped up like on many channels. The content is very well presented and objective. Subscribed and thumbs up 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
