Genesis GV70 review: Better than the Germans?! 😳

.............................................................
It’s time to get Mat’s in-depth review of the new Genesis GV70!

What’s Genesis? In much the same way that Lexus is a premium, up-market version of Toyota, Genesis is a premium, up-market offering from Hyundai.

The latest car from this relatively new brand is this GV70 SUV. It’s an alternative to the likes of the many German SUVs you’ll see (almost without fail) on your morning commute or school run, including the Audi Q54, the BMW X3 and the Mercedes GLC.

You won’t mistake the GV70 for any of those cars, though. It looks completely different from every angle thanks to plenty of Genesis’ signature design details including stacked two-piece headlights and tail lights, a broad, angular front grille and a steeply raked window pillar at the side.

Things get even more eye-catching inside. Genesis has really pushed the boat out for the GV70’s interior and you’ll find loads of posh-looking trims and plenty of plush materials.
It’s just a shame that unlike in most premium SUVs, you still need a cable to connect your phone to the otherwise decent infotainment system.

Another area where the GV70 differs from its alternatives is when you come to pick the engine you want. Unusually, you can choose from petrol, diesel AND electric options. The last of which Genesis claims will return up to 282 miles according to the combined WLTP test.

So, how does this new Genesis SUV stack up against better-known and much-loved alternatives from BMW, Audi and Mercedes? Watch this review to find out…

Genesis KILLING it. Although not a huge fan of the GV60 styling…THIS one is a winner.

I had a load of Genesis models on my car transporter, was absolutely blown away, more so by the interiors than anything else.

Having had two solid bullet proof Hyundais (coupe siii + santa fe) have been looking to get something more luxurious but with same reliability, cheap to run as my Hyundais. This Genesis G70 seems like the perfect alternative to the German luxury brands which cost an arm and a leg

The Hyundai group is just killing it at this point… Beautiful, well built and reliable cars on all categories.

Mat has quickly become my favorite automotive presenter since the Three Wise Men. Love his enthusiasm

While I do love my German SUVs, something about the GV70 just does it right. Here in the US, we get a 3.5 liter V6 model with 375 horsepower which is enough to have a little fun with. It may not be as agile and performance-oriented as its German rivals, but it does so well in other areas. Not to mention that the GV70 along with every other Genesis model looks stunning. Simply put, the Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis groups have come a long way.

My parents are seriously looking at this in high spec. They've been Audi buyers for years.
We saw one in a Genesis showroom in Sydney a few weeks ago, and it is a very big car. But very good looking and the interior is top notch.

I have the G70 3.3 (sedan, not SUV) and i can honestly say it’s the best car I’ve ever owned. Looks great inside and outside, really good performance, and fully loaded with all the extras; HUD, lane keep assist, etc, PLUS, excellent warranty. I’d chose Genesis over BMW/Mercedes any day of the week

Although i am an OG Mercedes fanboy, must admit the new Genesis lineup is really mad! Would definitely consider one if i were to buy a new car! Love the styling and the fact that they are less common, a bit more unique choice. If they can be as reliable as Lexus over the long term, Genesis and Hyundai are gonna give Toyota a real hard time in the upcoming years! Design and interior qualitywise the Koreans are already way ahead Toyota...

I bought a genesis almost 6 years ago now. Great car. Have been telling all my friends to get one since. The value for their used and new vehicles is still really good in comparison.

I’ve just bought one! Sport Line luxury package gets you glass roof, massive 21′’ dark grey with G-Matrix pattern wheels & few more extra styling I think worth your money! Very happy with the product

Such a beautiful vehicle. The interior is so gorgeous too. I’d love to see a trim without the roof rails and the chrome blacked out

A classic traditional interior, better than most. Bravo Genesis. Looks Gorgeous on the outside!

I'd buy one of these over any BMW, Mercedes, or Audi SUV in a heart beat! The interior quality alone is much better than the so called "luxury" German cars. It's amazing that Hyundai are making quality like this yet the Germans seem to be cutting costs like using plastics on parts of the interior.

I’ve been waiting for you to review this. I own the GV70 in Sydney Australia, had it for 14 months now, it’s the 3.5v6 twin turbo that you don’t get in the UK. I absolutely love it!

8:22 The brake discs and pads a smooth when new. What you are hearing is slip. They need to be used for couple of miles so the pad material embeds in the disc surface...and problem solved

I live in Vancouver, Canada and just had the GV70 w/ 3.5TT overnight and totally fell in luv with it.
Its a Luxury CrossOver that has plenty of power. It won't outperform the more sportier Benz GLC 63S AMG power & torque nor the X3 M 40i, or the Macan Turbo but the LUXURY (quieter & smoother ride) and the VALUE Proposition will have you thinking a few times over if the German options are really worth it for the extra cost. GV70 has the edge in my books b/c of the Ext & Int styling PLUS high level of materials used in the Int as top notch. I like to invest my money whenever possible and change out my daily every 5-10 yrs.
This GV 70 has many Luxury features, new updated interior, that ext styling and enough power (less than 5 seconds 0-60) to have tons of fun with. Its exceptionally quiet in the cabin and in Comfort mode it really is a smooth ride.
If ur comparing the GV70 to the Germans you will be blown away with all the luxury standard features (Drivers side massaging seats, front heated & cooled seats, that massive center screen, the move forward & back option on the key fob, massive sunroof & moon roof, AWESOME sound system, all the safety features, etc...) It really does offer an AWESOME VALUE vs the Germans. PLUS the scheduled maintenance for 5 yrs is INCLUDED!!!
The price in Canada for a full load with the interior CF trim, 360 camera, quilted leather, etc is $75, 500 including F&PDI. Just pay taxes and doc fee.
I'm VERY Very impressed:-)
Now, do I choose the electrified version or just get the gas powered one now?
I like the electrified version b/c it has the sunroof where as the GV60 does not.
Fantastic VALUE options either way.
Cheers from Vancouver.

Got the gv70 in UK and it’s amazing but the UK market is tough, my gv70 doesn’t make the brake or window noise, actually the Genesis g70 which came out in Korea 2018 was the first car in the world to have 3D instrument cluster, actually before Mercedes had it
