I've visited Alcatraz' and seeing the Cell on the ground floor from which Morris escaped can only admire his inventiveness and sheer guts.

I believe they survived, they made a boat or some kind of floatation device out of rain jackets. The 2 brothers made their way to South America but came back for their mothers funeral but dressed in drag according to a family member. They received a photo in the 70’s and it did look like them. The biggest reason I believe is the FBI never closed the case until a couple of years ago because it wasn’t likely they were still alive given their age. Not only did they keep the case open but they actively worked it. Why would they spend so much time and money if the FBI believed they were dead.

My favorite part of this video is how I wasted 26 minutes to hear about a letter they barely went into detail about.

I visit Alcatraz it’s rich in history. I believe they made it . They prepared everything. Human determination is real.

I believe that they made it. People could disappear far easier back then. Communication took longer and different states didn't work with each other as easily. They didn't want to get caught again and made sure that they weren't. Crime is usually a choice, not a compulsion.

I'm glad you set aside 27 seconds in a 27 minute video to talk about the letter in the title. Thanks

Over 25 minutes they spend 1 minute talking about the letter at the end

Can you imagine what these people could have accomplished using their ingenuity, resourcefulness and bravery for good?

They keep saying “attempted” to escape. They escaped

It's not an attempt when they made the escape!

I've been to Alcatraz and my son swam in the bay across from the island. I think it's quite possible they escaped; although the currents can be strong.

Authorities will always play down any such attempts so they can discourage any future escapes. Of course they escaped human resourcefulness has no bounds especially those 3 individuals.

Amazing ! This guy doing the narration has one hell of a pair of lungs. He talked without stopping to breathe for 27 minutes and 22 seconds !!! Definitely a candidate for the Guinness Book of Records !

We hear all the reasons why no one could escape Alcatraz but the one glaring omission is made.
Resourceful humans.
I believe they may well have made it out.

That adrenaline was running so high they made it out alive 😭

If they made it, the remarkable thing was that three men with a long history of crime spent the rest of their lives without ever being arrested for any crime. If one of them had been arrested anywhere in the US, he would have been routinely fingerprinted and exposed. As for the letter, it could be real or a fake. With a blockbuster movie and several documentaries on TV, the details of the escape were fairly common knowledge. A terminally ill man might be willing to trade his freedom for medical care during the final year of his life.

If this is true I hope he wrote a book and leaves it behind when he dies. I would read that book!

Twelve seconds in and I'm gone. Describing Alcatraz as being 2.5 miles off the coast of San Francisco and NOT in the middle of the bay just confirms that AI robots are worthless.

Working on a career as an actor in the 80's, I won the part of one of the Anglin Brothers for the reenactment for Unsolved Mysteries. I had a lot of fun playing the role. The actor playing Morris took his role very seriously. He even had drawn pen marks on his hand to represent the tattoos that supposedly Morris had. Four funny occurrences from the filming were: 1. In a cell for a shot, I was told by the director to simply grab a book off the shelf and pretend to read waiting for a tool to be passed to me from the adjacent cell. However, with the camera rolling, the book I took of the shelf was the most X-rated book I had ever seen. Somehow I kept the smirk off my face. 2. While running down the terraces, I slipped and fell on my behind, picked myself up and carried on. They had to re-shoot the scene. 3. Being afraid of heights, which I told the director, he said no problem, I will call cut as soon as your foot hangs out over open space. The scene was me climbing down the pole of a building. Well, to mess with me, the Director waited a few more seconds, with me hanging my foot over a height of about 12 feet! 4. The most humorous anecdote from the filming was that the actor portraying Morris worked at the Post Office. We did a scene together where I was supposed to be scraping the roof vent with a file to get it to open. I was doing the scene after I convinced the Alcatraz Park Ranger, who was standing just off camera, that I would not actually touch any part of the building. "Morris" came up to check on my progress and I told him to be quiet so we would not get caught. His response was his own creation, he said: "Shut up and keep filing". When the episode aired a few weeks later, when he went into work at the post office, he told me he must have heard his fellow workers tell him over and over - "Hey - shut up and keep filing." I had my own unsolved mystery criminal experience, as the woman who arranged for me to do the audition, who also received the pay I was supposed to get, left town without paying her hotel bill or me. She agreed to meet me at least twice and....never showed. Still, a fun experience. The episode can still be seen with other Unsolved Mysteries episodes....Enjoy! Brian Gardner
