The most accurate representation of what "accepting oneself", "accepting to feel loved" and "letting go" look and feel like that i've ever seen .

When you finally realize that "A silent voice" is not a story about a guy falling in love with a girl, It's about a guy being able to love himself again.

Did anyone else noticed that when he really started listening, he no longer only heard negative things about himself. He started hearing people fully.

This wasn’t a love story, an anime, or even a movie.

It was art.

Perfectly explains anxiety and self hatred. This is by far one of the greatest anime I've watched. Couldn't even avoid shedding tears. This was more than just your typical romance anime, it really is more than that.

imagine me holding my tears for the whole movie but lost it when the X's fell

That "X" was one of the most powerful symblolism I've ever seen. The lack of eye contact, the way you shut down and force yourself not to listen, not to mind the world around you. It becomes a habit and you don't really notice until someone comes and you see their "X" is falling down. Opening your eyes, noticing the world around you, feeling how it lives, how it sounds, maybe even accepting it with its own flaws and finally accepting your own flaws. I really hope a moment like that will come for everyone.

• Your Name taught me how to find love and keep it.

• I Want to Eat Your Pancreas taught me how to live life to the fullest.

• 5cm Per Second taught me how to move on and move forward.

• Grave of The FireFlies taught me how to muster up courage for the people I love and care for.

• Violet Evergarden taught me how to cherish memories

• A Silent Voice taught me how to forgive myself.

The reason why the music works so well in this scene is actually quite simple.

The piano at the start represents Shouya. It's a solo, meaning that it plays all alone. Then Shouya removes his ears and then the voices come in. It's still the piano. The thing strange about the piano is that there's a filter on it. It's muffled. It's as if you're hearing the piano through the cloth, so you're not *really* hearing it properly.

The Xs come off at 0:30 and there's a ringing sound. It sounds like titinittus. You can often hearing ringing in your ears when it's so quiet.

Then at 0:34 the timpani and cymbal comes in and it comes all together at 0:37 where a loud bell like chime resounds and time starts moving again. We are all familiar with this scene. Shouya looks around and seeing people for who they are ect.

This is reflected in the music.
It plays the same melody the piano played, only this time it's so full.
There's a bass to it that's so deep and warm. If played on speakers, it's the kind of bass that vibrates your heart. It shakes your insides and gives you a feeling of grounding.

The main melody is played with synths that add a new layer of texture to it, making it sound more alive.

There's high pitched flute sounding synths that jump around and a marimba sounding one that plays a steady rythmn. It makes the track lively and more joyful.

All the while, the piano is playing under it. This paired with the visuals means that there is a whole new world different from our own. It's a musical way of 'discovering something new.' Throughout a Silent Voice, Shouya finds someone who grounds him. Someone that makes him feel more alive. People that add to his life making it more lively and joyful.

At 1:07 it becomes quieter as Shouya cries. This makes sense. The music is becoming strained and more of that ringing is heard. It's trying to convey that pang in your heart. The twist and turn in your chest as your heart aches and cries out. All the while, the instruments take a gentler tone. It's like a mother patting your back, a friend being there for you, a soothing voice calming your heart, and a gentle touch that reminds you that someone is there. That's what the music is trying to say.

Finally it ends with that same piano only this time, the filter is gone. You're hearing what the piano is in it's raw, unedited form.

The music shows that sometimes we live our own lives as if we were the only people in the world. That we refuse to see ourself for who we are which is symbolized by that muffled filter at the start. We don't see, no, sometimes we even refuse to look at ourselves, thinking that we don't deserve some sort of kindness nor mercy. It's as if we dehumanize ourself to live on as a human.

But the music also says that if we look, if we take one tiny peek, if we give ourselves a second chance, we can find world beyond our own. A world so kind, a world so warm, a world so raw with emotion that we can't even hold back. It shows us that there's more to life than our little own self created walls. That our lives can be much more than the monotony we force ourselves to adhere to. That our lives can be fuller than we can even imagine with a depth so deep and a joy so bright. The track also says that we don't have to always be happy.
It strains itself and rings from time to time. It tells us to treat ourselves as human. Humans cry, humans hurt, humans wail and feel so empty inside that the coldness blossoms in our chest and we cant help but want to claw it all out. It's normal to feel pain and be sad. It's normal to cry. At the same time, it assures that someone in the world will be there for you.
Someone somewhere is cheering out for you when you can't cheer for your own. Someone is running for you when you can't even stand. Someone is crying for you when you cant even cry for yourself.

Then the ending promises change. That even if those people don't stay, the experiences they leave behind will guide you. The stories you made together, the time you spent together, the words you gave each other will be there to warm your cold heart and tell you that you are human.

Some of you think that you don't deserve it and the world won't allow you to become someone who wants happiness. Some of you may think that you don't deserve happiness, band that it's all out of your reach.

However, it's okay. It's just like how the music tells it. It all starts from the piano's first melody.
In the silent voice, it started with Shouya reaching out.
And today, it all starts with your first step forward.

I hope you all are doing well out there, wherever you are.

I like how in the beginning he puts his hands over his ears like he is blocking "the noise" out, and at the end takes them off. Implying he was the one who was really deaf, not literally, but deaf to the world around him, and when he finally accepted himself it was like a deaf person hearing beautiful music for the first time.

I’ve seen a bunch of comments saying they liked the love story progressing but the movie wasn’t about love, but about the real meaning of forgiveness, redemption, loving/forgiving yourself. I can’t believe this didn’t win any oscars, nothing could beat this movie

apologising is hard,
forgiving is harder,
but forgiving yourself is near impossible.

When I was in middle school, I was bullied for having a very slight lazy eye. I stopped looking people in the eyes in fear that they'd think I looked weird or would make fun of me. My confidence was shot. I still struggle with it sometimes, and I'm not even sure that I ever had a lazy eye in the first place. The X's at the end showing Shoya's renewed confidence always hits me like a fucking truck. Insanely amazing symbolism.

I really have no idea how many times I've been here. but i can't watch this scene without getting tears. the film is so close to my heart because the subject of forgiveness plays a big role in my life. everyone knows the feeling when you've really fucked something up. you feel bad and you don't want to see anyone anymore. You find it hard to believe that people can really give you love after everything that has happened. for me it was my suicide attempt in february. i think about it every day. when i look in the mirror i only see the person who hurt my friends and family so much. I hope for myself there will come a moment when I can learn to forgive myself and to be able to accept love again. koe no katachi is very inspiring for me
