My grandmother was born in Aberdeenshire in 1892 and moved to Canada in 1912. She never made it back home to see her family. I’d love to go there.

I was born in Aberdeen and lived in many different places in Aberdeenshire and it is a genuinely beautiful part of the world.

Dunnottar, that's my family's old place 😊 My mum was a Keith, descended from a son of Robert Dunnottar, the Rev. James Keith, Colonial clergy, who sailed to America from Aberdeen in 1640s to set up a parish at Bridgewater Massachusetts where his parsonage still stands 😊 I've read he "filled New England with Keiths" including my Grampa Bill's greatgreatgreats😊 I never knew any of this until I retired in 2019 and jumped into Ancestry during Covid.I so wish my mum were still around to know it too, she'd have loved it!❤
Thanks for posting.

Welcome to beautiful Aberdeenshire, I'm a native to Buchan and have spent my life exploring here and all over Scotland and I'm still discovering amazing places and sights. Truly a magical place...I'm glad you enjoy it too.

Thank you for this lovely post! I'm Jamaican and my 3rd Great Grand-Father, Anson and his Brother, Edgar, migrated to Jamaica in the 1700s from Aberdeenshire. I hope to visit one day.

I'm an Australian. Born and raised in Melbourne. My mum came from country Victoria. Her dad, my maternal grandfather, was born in Aberdeenshire Scotland. It's a very important part of my family heritage

As an Aberdeen loon who left 55 years ago to live in Australia, this video has brought back many happy memories of my childhood there. I was born in Fittie, moved to Orchard St, lived in a prefab in Tillydrone and played in the grounds of St Machers Cathedral. Then on to Kincorth to Secondary school at Kaimhill. I remember well so many of the places you have shown here. Many thanks.

One of the first videos I have seen on Aberdeenshire made by an outsider without bias, and very well done. I am from NE Scotland but lived all over, as far as Inverness, I lived close to Corse Castle ruin in a place called Cushnie for about 15 years, that castle is unfortunately becoming a bit too unstable and will likely have a big collapse in a decade or so. If you carry on from Corse Castle towards Tarland there is a great view over the Cromar valley towards the mountains of Lochnaggar, Mount Keen, Morvern and Clachnaben, great area for walkers and mountain bikers. Craigiever Castle is also an attractive little keep close to Corse Castle ruin. If you like outdoor pursuits like kayaking, gliding, shooting, fishing, hill walking, mountain biking, climbing and even wind surfing (plenty wind on the North Sea but cold) Aberdeenshire caters for all of it. Great thing is we have plenty of space and it is not crowded

I agree Slains Castle is well worth the trip. We had the whole place to ourselves the day we visited in Sep 2019. And Dunnottar is spectacular. It may be my favorite of all the castles we visited in northeast Scotland.

Thankyou for such great suggestions of places to visit in Aberdeenshire. We're looking at coming to Scotland in August '25 and have been wondering where to stay and what to see and I was considering this area as a base, that's how I found your video, thank you for your time.

I was born in Ellon in 1960 - but only because Peterhead didn't have a maternity hospital then!

Although I left the area in 1973 I'm still a "Buchan Loon" - my attachment to North East Scotland is very strong.

I had a feeling Slains might be your fav spot. My own children are in their 30s now and I took them to Slains from an early age.

During our infrequent visits now from our homes in Midlothian, a visit to Slains is always on our list.

Thank you for posting such an interesting, high quality, video.

I lived in Aberdeenshire for 10 years and never knew many of these places existed. We take things for granted too much. I read that there was once 2-3000 castles in Scotland. 🎉 Thanks for posting and hope you and your family come back one day. 😇🥳🤣
