Golf Putting Discussion | Putting Stats on Tour

Golf putting is perhaps the most tedious aspect of the game of golf. However, it could also be the most important. Roughly 40% of any golfer's strokes are putts, so making sure that area of your game is dialed in is vital.

A quick look at putting stats on tour illustrates the most important areas for golfers to work on. The best in the world excel from 5 feet and in and 3-putt at an extremely low rate. That, according to master fitter Larry Bobka, is the recipe for good putting.

In this video, 2nd Swing's Michael Geiger and Larry Bobka use some putting statistics from the best players in the world to illustrate what amateur golfers need to work on, and what their expectations should be.

Great video and as golfers, being conscious of the amateur reality is key to improving. Always laugh internally when people get upset missing a 20 ft putting. We really need to only focus on distance control to get the first putt within 3 feet IMO. Putting is one area we can be side by side with the pros, 2 putt or less and your score drops dramatically.

Larry talks to Brad Faxon? Wow. Definitely recommend a camera-based putt fitting. Finally hitting pure putts after 15 years of golf.

Thanks for putting out those stats, very eye opening. I guess I'm too hard on myself lol

Larry, I have plans for a fitting, including for a putter. And I have some things in mind.

I'm activley trying to find a putter fitting. If only you weren't 13, 000 miles away. I'd be there already! 😀

I try to make 80% inside of 5 ft. 50% inside of 10. 20% inside of 15. Anything more is a bonus as at 20+ ft I'm thinking 2 putt.

I just don’t have ANY confidence that a club fitter at a big box golf store would have the ability to give a quality club fitting.
