Can I survive Terraria's Hardest Difficulty?

I spent 24 hours in Hardcore Terraria, while also playing on Master Mode, Terraria's hardest difficulty. Can we beat the game with just a single life, let's find out!

When I'm working on bigger projects like this sometimes there can be quite a bit of delay between videos. That being said, I stream these challenges every other day on Twitch so you can always keep up with me there if you're interested!

If you get a spider staff early on, and just have it ready when you spot a turtle like this, it will stunlock it in a way that prevents its spin.

The casual way that turtle hopped up into the fishing shelter to wreck Gungnir's day was honestly hilarious

it would take me 14 attempts to get to where you got. Actually 14 sounds way too low for someone like me.

Ah yes, hardcore master mode. The challenge we all want to attempt deep inside, but are too afraid to lose 100+ hours of progression in a fraction of a second

finally someone else, other then happy, who actually does this right.

Sad thing is the death could’ve been avoided by just having a two block platform gap to fish through instead of a 4 block gap

HIS BIGGEST FEAR OF DYING FROM A TURTLE HAS HAPPENED... YOU LITERALLY JINKXED IT

I understand how you feel Gungnir, dying to that Turtle at the end. I had a hardcore master mode character with 800 ish hours on it i think (the only reason why it was that high is because i played it incredibly safe, every fight i would do i had max buffs, and i was not very good, i was just cocky at the time). I was at Lunatic Cultist, the boss itself was easy, the problem was my minion hit the wrong Cultist, summoning the Phantasm dragon, which ultimately killed me in the end just as i recalled. I was so upset that i took 2 months from terraria. I tried again after, this time i had practised a bit and was better at the game. I made it back to the lunatic cultist with i think 400 to 500 hours on the character, i forgot since it was november at the time. I killed the lunatic cultist, and beforehand i already set up AFK farms that i used to kill the pillar enemies. Moon lord came along, and i was fighting him for 45 minutes straight i think, either that or it was an hour. I had made an arena packed with everything i could use, including the dryad and the nurse (In hindsight, they would have not helped at all as the moonlord could basically 2 hit me before i could heal, so yeah). I eventually killed the moon lord and was so fucking happy. To celebrate, i made a new world and found a boulder trap.

The last thing i did was take off all my armour, and accessories, and let myself die to the boulder.

"Do everything to be safe"

6:55 Fun fact: Curse actually has a sort of bypass: It only affects items within your inventory. Accessories like Shield work fine, and you can still use Cthulu dash to defend against getting killed while waiting for Curse to end

The moment i saw that tortoise + the measly shack for fishing i thought "thats how it ends"
And the moment it dropped into the water just confirmed it more in my head

I swear tortoise AI is terrifying they check all angles to find an opening

I also thought it would be a derpling phasing through the blocks

Hey Gungnir, it's Zardyn from your streams, you call me Zardie :D
This was a really impressive and awesome run! This is my favorite way to play Vanilla, I've played like 200 runs, over half of which ended quickly before Hardmode for obvious reasons.
I have a few tips if you're interested! Here they are, all 14:

1. Getting past early Prehardmode is always the hard part, but basically, you have the strategy down. Dangersense is a LIFESAVER, and Warding on everything is always the way to go.

2. Assume EVERYTHING can kill you, even if you're post Moon Lord, and deal with each obstacle one at a time! If you keep your distance and your health topped off, you should be fine, but never underestimate the power of a simple Skeleton or a few Slimes.

3. Always keep a pressure plate on hand! Pressure plates are wiring items, so if you hold one, you can see all traps and are never caught off guard. A good budget option until you get Dangersense and/or Grand Design!

4. Don't do the dungeon Prehardmode. Cobalt Shield is amazing and the knockback immunity is amazing, but wait until you have Adamantite armor before doing so.

5. I find the safest method of getting through the Early Hardmode phase you died at is... what you were doing! Fish, fish, fish. Getting crates is the safest way to get geared up, and the best way to take the mech bosses is with Adamantite (Ranger). The only issue you had was there was a space for enemies to get through, take care of that then your strat is seamless.

6. Don't hesitate to grind for accessories such as the ice turtle shell, which is a great component for a great shield later on. Ankh Shield is a good accessory too, but it's by no means required, and it can take too long and be too risky sometimes.

7. The first Mech boss you should fight is the Destroyer, and how I do it is I get Daedalus with Holy Arrows (Still the best weapon even post nerf), and build a platform that he can't quite reach with barriers on each side to block probe blasts. The key to the fight is PATIENCE! Burn the probes whenever you see one, THEN fire at the boss. If the platform turns out to be in the wrong spot, get Destroyer to despawn then try again. Even if you doubt the platform a LITTLE bit, don't take the risk, just reset to avoid losing the run.

8. After Destroyer is dead, craft the Hallowed Repeater and use Ichor arrows to take out the Twins. I find the best strategy is to build a platform in the sky all the way across the world made out of asphault with two wooden platform layers above it, 6 blocks inbetween. Just run and dodge while shooting, same armor.

9. After the Twins you might be able to afford full Hallowed armor, if so, craft it. The dodge it offers makes it by FAR the best set in Hardmode, I use it up to Moon Lord.

10. Skeletron Prime fight is really just the same strategy you use for Skeletron, spin to win. Just circle him and use Holy Arrows until all limbs are gone, then switch to Ichor Arrows.

11. After then, to be honest, the risky parts are mostly over! The Plantera strategy you've used in the past works seamlessly, and Golem is... Golem...

12. Don't fight Empress of Light in Hardcore, maybe try it after Moonlord with Vortex armor for an extra bonus fight for beating the run.

13. The hardest part of Hardmode is the pillars. Honestly, just sit at the edge of the pillar spawn zone and lure a few mobs out at a time to kill them safely. The easiest is Stardust pillar because you can just kill cells and wait for them to regen for infinite kills. After that point, just burn down the pillar. Use the stardust dragon summon to help, having a summon active NEVER hurts. The rest of the pillars are just luring out enemies and killing them systematically, then burning down the pillars as quickly as possible. I find using Cosmic Car Key helps with mobility, but don't use it against solar. Don't go in the air for Solar pillar much, because that's when the Crawltipedes get you.

14. And for Moon Lord, honestly the easiest boss of the run if you use a good strategy. Mine is this:
I craft the Daybreaker and wear full Hallow Melee armor, and then use the Mech cart on a minecart platform across the sky and shoot the Daybreaker at the Moon Lord until he dies. Make sure to build sections where you bounce OVER the Moon Lord at each end of the world, or he'll catch you, some clever hammering will do it. You can make it work pretty easily.

And there you go, that's all the tips I have to offer! Wishing you the best of luck on your runs Gungnir, I hope to catch you using these tips on stream. See ya 'round, man!

> wide fishing platform in the jungle that isn't completely sealed off
i find it funny that you made all this preparation for the underground jungle because of the turtle but refused to see the open space of the surface as an equal threat

I would say "Imagine doing this on Journey-Master-For the worthy", but I feel like it'd trigger a post traumatic episode in people that already have.

For the Youtube only people-attempt 4 was the best but Gung will likely not show it
We need to campaign for an attempt 4 movie

At 8:50 in the video the way the lava and the ash are generated look like a skull. That's very fitting for the challenge he's doing.

for future reference: when fishing, especially in the jungle, hoik fish instead (your bobber should be able to pass through hoik walls). it's far safer than the open platforms

As someone who’s beaten hardcore master mode, I can confirm it is very painful, the latest point i’d ever lost a character before beating the game was in the post plantera dungeon, killing plantera in master mode is like entering hardmode all over again, almost everything will 2 shot you. Also I didn’t actually fish for hm ores, instead I was just always ready to recall, used any invisibility or calming potions I could, and got the bare minimum of each ore required. A tip for if you ever do mine, until post mechs hell is probably one of the far safer biomes in hm. Also I can relate to dying to an explosive trap in the jungle, it was actually my first every post queen bee death, very sad. Hope you beat it! It feels a whole lot more worth it once you have.
