Is it required to play on Marathon mode for the Marathon quests or can we simply plant on the regular mode?

hey based off your video I had a suspicion it maybe all transit exits, So I went to the one on woods and it allowed me to plant. So It maybe it. I dont have time to make a how to video but I will try a third map transit exit to see If my suspicion is correct.
