Apatosaurus vs. Brontosaurus

Everyone knows Brontosaurus, but everyone has *also* heard that it's the same thing as Apatosaurus. Here's paleontologist Matthew T. Mossbrucker (curator of the Morrison Natural History Museum) on why these are in fact separate dinosaurs. Part of an occasional series of weekend videos on non-Norse topics.

"Dinosaurs and guns and Colorado and stuff?" And a Jehovah's Witness joke? This is the best channel of them all!

I met this guy (or maybe some of his coworkers) at the Alamo Drafthouse in Littleton at the Jurassic World premiere and they had some skull out and my brother and I went up to ask them about it and they were stoked to share and answered all of our questions. I have also had a great time at Dinosaur Ridge. There's a fossilized impression of an Apatosaurus(?) footprint in the mud, which is incredible. I highly recommend the visit if you're in Colorado.

Holy crap! This is the best audio I've ever heard on YouTube. It sounds so clean and clear with such great positioning that it sounded like I was sitting right there with them.

Good video. Lots of Archaeologists like myself and colleagues who are Medievalists/historians/into old stuff got their start with Dinosaurs. My favorite book as a kid was an old Paleontology university text book from the 60s or 70s

Thanks Dr. Crawford, an interesting topic even if not focused on norse history. Thanks also to the paleontologist since his explanation was perfectly clear to me.
Nice lumberjack shirts. I have one taken from Canada, so I imagine over there it must be very cold. Here in Italy, our professors use to wear boring grey suits. If in Colorado all the academic people are adventurous like you two, finishing my Ph.D I will definitely move to the United States. Have a nice weekend.😊

So _Apatosaurus_ was very big, but what was its size conpared to _Paraceratherium_, the largest land mammal that have lived. (The ones that looked like hornless rhinoceroses)

I love Matt's tongue in cheek self-denigration, but for someone who grew up OBSESSED with dinosaurs, this certainly wasn't boring at all. I think you'd find a lot of crossover with your fans who are into generally nerdy sort of stuff like this. I remember being 9 years old and having yelling matches with my friends about the brontopatosaurus confusion ahhaha.
