Listen to the dialogue carefully. It seems someone had already broken Piper's heart and that is why she didn't have high expectations frome the Sole Survivor. :(

Oh dear god that was painful, Piper has a way of wrenching your insides when shes disapproving of you. Not sure I'll survive watching her crisis scene.

She sounds so broken and just...sad. Poor Piper. The emotion the VA's put into these characters is magnificent - you can feel the emotions the characters are going through, in a sense.
