This patient had been suffering from avascular necrosis (dead talus) for about 6 months before coming to the Orthopedic Institute of North Texas to see Dr. Justin Kane, our Foot and Ankle Board-Certified Orthopedic Specialist.

Dr. Kane performed a total talus replacement surgery with ligament reconstruction using 3D printed technology. The surgery he performed is a very new procedure that was not possible in the past. It is a specialty and not many doctors perform this surgery. In the past, the options for patients with these conditions were to fuse the ankle or to live with the pain. And now they have the option to try new technology. (3D printed technology)

Thanks to this new innovative surgery performed by Dr. Justin Kane, this patient is back on his feet and he's even running 5Ks again 1 year after his surgery.

This video was taken during his 2-year office visit with Dr. Kane. He continues to remain pain-free and is able to enjoy an active lifestyle that before surgery he never thought he would be able to resume.

I am 7 months post op. I have the same mobility most days. But that is about as good as I can get. I know I am impatient, but is walking faster out of my goal range? I want to get back to work as a mail carrier.

Great news and very nice gait. Was that after stretching and some time on his feet? I am about 23 weeks out and it really hurts for the first 5 minutes then I can walk pretty good. does the initial pain go away in a couple months?

Do I ever have a job for you Dr.Justin Kane. Destroyed my left talus bone along with a few, 5 to be exact, other bones in my left foot. Everything except the talus has been good.. started with 11 pins now at 9.. I would love to walk half as well as this patient..

I would like to ask...
Nearly 8years after my ankle has been restored after motorcyclw crash- talus cracked, have two pins and two screws still in there. Compare your video, just on the end when your patient move his ankle-there are some weird sounds coming of the ankle. Something like gentle cracking. I have the same. After 8 yeras can get rid of them. Is it normal?
