It's true although he was a bit dumb randomly accusing people and trying to kill the hellfire crew, he was doing this for his girlfriend and for the people who were caught in this mess like Max he was trying to save her even though he made it worse he had some good intention.

Honestly, put his position in one of the other characters. Like let's see when will went missing, they believed he actually died and the police announced the lead suspect. The 3 boys would go to find the killer and get revenge right? Cause no way in hell would they suspect that there are monsters in a parallel dimension. And no one would hate the boys. So why do they hate Jason?
