Tech vs. Finance the ULTIMATE Comparison (Salaries & Careers)

Tech and finance have the most monetarily rewarding careers. Tech produces a relatively high amount of young millionaires from successful IPOs while the compensation in finance can reach 7 figures for those that live and breath making business and climbing the ladder.

I've been contemplating a career in finance and the exposure to capital markets and the work hard, play hard, *win* hard mentality in NYC only galvanized acting on that idea even more. During my time here so far, I've got to know multiple tech and finance professionals, and had done a lot of research myself on the topic.

In this video, I cover the 3 most rewarding and competitive careers in tech and finance, each in 3 different levels: Software Engineer, Product Manager, Engineer Manager in tech, and Investment Banker, Private Equity, Management Consultant in finance, at the junior, senior and executive or director levels, including how much these roles pay at different levels and what the work looks like.

I would comment, the pay for some of these positions is HIGHLY dependent on location. If you’re working in tech in Silicon Valley vs the Midwest, these numbers make sense. If you’re in the Midwest, these numbers are dramatically less (generally)

What if you did finance/accounting in a tech company. Would you still get equity? If so would it be a comparable amount?

Hey Dave, I'm a fourth year finance major and econ minor and I'm starting to realize that none of these high finance roles seem appealing to me. So I was considering pivoting to tech. I've done a things with code before, but nothing major. I understand how to code, but obviously to show potential employers my knowledge in this field I'll have to do more than just say i coded a flappy bird knockoff once lol. So my question is, are there any credentials I can pursue that might help me land an interview in a tech position? I plan on minoring in computer science at my university with a focus on algorithms, but if I get a job without it then that would be great lol.
