I use local wood to knock. However I use rocks to clack. I get more responses. You are right they chest thump which is more common in the south. Great video.

Green wood, freshly plucked from a live tree, would be solid enough to make the sound needed to carry a distance.

Enjoyed the video (content and production quality), sasquatch being the source of "wood knocks" in general is completely unsupported. As you mentioned there are tons of sources for "knocks" that are completely natural.
