for 1st year interest is same under both methods that is 400.
but for second year rate of interest is same but there is change in principal under CI because interest is paid for principal plus 1st years interest. since the question is asked for the difference in interest it is 10% of rs.400=40. interest is never 20% or 21% because % is always annual unless specified.

(if 2 yrs)=p(R/100)^2

(If 3 yrs)=P(R/100)*(3+R/100)

=>4000*10/100*10/100=400 ans
