Sleep demons are frightening phenomena that are all too real for people who experience sleep paralysis. Roughly 20% of people have an episode of sleep paralysis at least occasionally. In as many as 75% of these episodes, the sleeper has a hallucination in which they hear, see, feel, or sense something in their bedroom.

These sleep-related hallucinations have been described throughout recorded history, and they take on various forms in different cultures. Join Faith as she explores the fascinating topic of sleep demons and why, as scary as they seem, there are modern scientific explanations for their occurrence.

Something pinned my hands to my bed and started choking me until I asked Jesus for help. The sleep paralysis instantly ended.

I had a dream last night that a demon tried to attack me. I had woken up in the middle of the night and decided to praise the Lord, after a few hours I went back to bed, and when I fell asleep I had sleep paralysis. I couldn’t move anything besides my jaw; which wasn’t easy because I sleep on my face. The only thing I wanted to say to wake me up was “Jesus” after that the demon jumped up in my face trying to scare me. The moment I remembered I had authority over the demon (luke 10:19) I grew probably two feet taller than the demon. Making it run away. I woke up after that and kept praising God.

I've had sleep paralysis multiple times.

First most notable was when I was once sleeping at my parents house. When I was falling asleep to room suddenly seemed to get darker and there was this feeling of darkness and dread and presence in a room looming over me. It was hard to breathe and this dark entity enveloped me as I was lying on my bed. I couldn't move or shout or even turn my head just this heavy breathing of someone dark on my back.

Second was actually today at night. I was also laying on my stomach and I heard someone coming to my bed to my left my head was turned right and again I couldn't move or scream and this thing grabbed me by the arm and started twitching and shaking violently on the bed. I could literally feel the bed shaking.

I am never scared of anything, horrors, stories, darkness or anything but this is a little BS. I absolutely hate this feeling of being powerless, defenceless and absolutely terrified by something seemingly supernatural and evil. I cannot really explain it but every time I hallucinate this thing you can feel the darkness around you.

Demons are real and sometimes try to attack you in your sleep.

I consider myself to be rational and logical in my thinking. But I had an experience with the sleep demon. I researched it and so many people describe seeing the same thing. My experience was real. It happened . And it changed my life and got me into a good spiritual place with God

I’ve had beyond words evil spirit nightmares. In one instance a shadow of a spirit was hovering over me, the presence was alarming, beyond words. The feeling was overwhelming. My soul was tormented, and yes, I couldn’t move. I was making sounds with my throat that made no sense, my screams woke me up. When I woke up, the first thing that popped in my mind was how horrible it will be when lost souls end up in hell.

When it happened to me when I was a teen I just got home and was getting ready to sleep and laid on my side and then all of a sudden I opened my eyes due to the feeling of someone standing right being me and then I tried to get up but noticed I couldn't move, then I tried to yell for my parents or my sisters and brother but I couldn't talk, all I could do was move my eyes while some weird whisperings was going off in my ears and then after about a minute the whisperings started to faintly disappear I jumped up, ran out of my room as fast as I can and into my parents room where I started freaking out. I've always had ghost phenomenon happen to me even since I was a baby. My parents once told me when me and my siblings were born my parents moved into a apartment and they later found out that it was a building that was once used by a cult that used the entire building as some sacrificial alter.

I couldn't even muster words last night my paralysis attack was so bad but once I thought of the Lord and I was able to speak his name and the being holding me down instantly left and I could breathe and remember folks for we wrestle not with flesh and blood but with spiritual wickedness powers in high places and principalities

I had a dream a few years ago.

I "woke up" and the closet opened. A tall lanky figure walked out. It wasn't a shadow. I made it out clearly. It was all black, with long sharp nails. A bald head- white face with no eyes or nose, only a mouth of sharp teeth. It came from the closet and crawled onto my bed like a humanoid spider.

It crawled on top of me before staring me in the face before I "woke up" in sweat again. I ran out to my roommate in the garage who has long hair where you can't see her face from the door.

I tapped her on the shoulder about to tell her about my nightmare but her head turned around with the same face as the one I previously seen. I finally woke up for real drenched in sweat. I remember it so vividly even though it's been about 5 years. I prayed to God for the next 2 weeks to make whatever that was go away and it never happened again. Sooo... idk, that was some scary shit in my opinion

I read once about getting out if sleep paralysis and all you have to do is instead of attempting to move your entire body just concentrate on putting 2 fingers together and this has worked so so many xs for me and I haven't had them in years now!

I had this for 30 years and if I could muster up the strength to say in Jesus name it would leave immediately I learned to not fear and it doesn't happen anymore

A couple nights ago I had sleep paralysis. A demonic dog no larger than a small pitbull came running over to my bedside and stared me in the face. I deal with trauma in humorous ways. Though I was panicked and frightened, I said "good demon dog." I slipped back into dreaming because I then reached out to pat it's head, only to grab a stuffed animal that wasn't really there. I then got up, called my bf, told him what was going on and went into the bathroom. I then woke up for real, panicking, turned the light on and could barely move, think or breathe still.

Yeah, I called into work and gave myself a good mental health check day.

Last night I had paralysis again, but I was able to breathe deep and get myself back to sleep. No hallucinations or terrifying sensations that time. Just couldn't move.

Yeah I've had it a few times! I saw a mirror beside my bed, and a demonic looking dog, comes out of it growling. I couldn't move or anything, it was absolutely terrifying! Best way to describe it was the wolf off of neverending story but red eyes and crazy looking! Essentially I guess what I saw was basically a freaken hell hound! I think it's spiritual!

I tried to write off my demonic attack as sleep paralysis just so that I would feel more comforted but then I realized that the entire time during the attack I was moving my body waking up the girl next to me so that she could see what was going on as well. So my body was not paralyzed at all and it was real.
