Weird US State Borders Explained

The US has a lot of weird borders so I wanted to make a full video explaining many of them... I wasn't able to so I'm now working on a part 2 :P

So basically, the NY portion of Ellis Island is the majority of the museum tourists are allowed to visit, while the southern side in the NJ portion is only allowed through guided tours because it's the Ellis Island Hospital which is in abandoned deteriorating conditions. Which is pretty fitting for NJ if you ask me

Regarding why Ellis Island is split, it's less to do with territorial waters but more to do with land reclamation. NY claimed they used dirt from digging the subway to expand the island, while NJ claims they just simply used what was in NJ waters. However, neither state could prove where it actually came from, so the Supreme Court ruled that NY got the original shape, while NJ got the reclaimed land. And it ends there, right? WRONG, because there's another issue that hasn't been addressed...Liberty Island

Because Liberty Island TOO was expanded, and this land is where the gift shop and the museum are. So in other words, NJ should own the gift shop, and get the revenue for the Statue's visitors.

The weirdest thing I see on US borders (as a non-American person) is the fact that some of America's states have this weird, straight line borders such as the ones in Colorado and Wyoming where the state is *like* a literal rectangle, unlike the rest of the world where they have these wavy, jagged borders in terms of their county/provinces.

Edit: I do know that Colorado isn't exactly a rectangle state but if you look at the state on aerial view it looks like it's somewhat similar to a rectangular shape. am not a citizen of America so I don't rlly know this at first, and I do know this topic may seem controversial especially people in colorado who may tryna diss on me or anything, I'm just here out of curiosity alright. no hates.
