Its an unwritten law to call vessels she/her. This law goes for all ships, cars, trucks, tanks, and aircraft.

I call ships “she” because of their Latin roots. The word for ship in Latin is “Navis”, which has feminine gender, not masculine or neuter.

I'm a rebellious wife, in that I don't use "I'm fine" inaccurately...if I say I'm fine, he knows I'm actually fine. If I'm not, I'll say so, along with telling him whether or not I want his help, so he's clear on any action to take (or not). So far it's working well! xD

Ships are ‘she’ for so so many reasons. Men ride them and take care of them. Men provide for and maintain them, protect them, defend them, try to capture them, rely on them for life, take them out, take them home, listen to them complain about not what is wrong while trying to figure out what is, men think they are beautiful, men stick with them past their prime, men give up their lives to keep her going. There are many many more reasons, but men know they need her and that she will always need them.
