I feel I should have understood in addition to starting to lift seriously. Super helpful to be able to contextualize a workout I'd follow along with. Being specific with your mind about the movement helps me establish a better connection. Thank you!

20:00 Side note, feet can pronate and supinate too, but it’s typically not a deliberate movement. If you’re a runner though, it’s good to know your tendency because it affects what kind of shoes will work best for you.

Good way to describe planes is they are made up of two axes. The X-Y plane in mathematics is made up of the X axis and Y axis.

Hi James,

If I have my arms straight out to the side and move them overhead,
that's moving the arms medially so is that adduction?

For the arm, internally rotating at the shoulder with a bent elbow moves the forearm medially.
The same is not true for the leg. If I stand up straight and lift one leg with a bent knee,
then to moves the lower leg medially, I have to externally rotate at the hip.

Finally, why is bringing the elbow to the body in the sagittal plane (e.g. in rows, pullups) called shoulder EXTENSION,
whilst bringing the knee to the body is called hip FLEXION?

I think it intuitively makes sense to associate elbow/knee/shoulder/hip flexion with pulling exercises,
and extension with pushing exercises. This is true for all of those joints except the odd one out which is the shoulder, so do you agree that shoulder extension/flexion are actually named wrong as the name says the opposite of what it does?
