This literally does NOT help. All the first command does is modify the file properties (read only, etc) and the second one is deleting the autorun.inf file which is used to auto-run stuff, but modern viruses do not work like this. They usually infect a program or service to disguise themselves (such as svchost.exe which is used by Windows) so doing these commands would not eliminate a virus that has compromised the service host process. A better method is to obvious use an AV program and maybe even get a "second opinion" from a reputable online scanner that can also scan your PC. Running the system file checker (possibly from a bootable Windows CD) is also helpful because it will check to see if any critical windows files have been modified and tries to restore them.

When I saw the thumbnail I thought you would recommend to delete all files in System32, but I was wrong, it was dumber.

Effect of the Command
Makes hidden, system-protected, and read-only files visible and editable.
Works on all files and folders in the current directory.
Does not affect subdirectories (to do so, /s must be added). Viruses are now free to do everything they want.

This command can help you see hidden file's and folders only. Your job is to locate which file is virus infected and which is not. You need to delete corresponding infected files.

I would not suggest using the attrib command as this video guides you to do. If you want to delete autorun.inf just type (without quotation marks), "del c:\autorun.inf /s/f" at the command prompt. This command tells the computer to delete the inf file by searching the entire computer then it forces a delete. If you use the attrib command as shown in this video you affectively open your computer up to a virus attacking and/or attaching itself to all system files as you just turned off the protection of READ ONLY and SYSTEM file attributes.

DO NOT try this on your real machine. I tried it on a virtual machine, and somehow the PC scheduled a restart — I had to boot into Safe Mode to fix it. DO NOT DO THIS UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.
That autorun.inf file is actually tied to how some system components behave — it's not some random "virus trigger" like some people claim. When I see someone doing a tutorial and saying "Open CMD to install YouTube, " I honestly start to freak out. This kind of advice isn't helpful and can really mess up someone's system. Use proper tools and learn what files actually do before deleting them.

No, the `attrib -s -h -r /s /d *.*` command doesn't remove viruses; it just changes file attributes to make them visible and writable. It doesn’t detect or clean viruses. 🥱

On the other hand, the `del autorun.inf` command deletes the `autorun.inf` file from the current directory. This file is used by Windows to automatically run programs or show custom icons when a removable drive (like a USB or CD/DVD) is connected. Deleting `autorun.inf` can help remove potentially harmful autorun settings, especially if it’s associated with malware. Just be sure to delete the correct file and from the right location to avoid messing with important system files.

autorun.inf is just a batch file which gets executed during windows boot startup. If this file contains harmful or destructive commands then only it is considered as a virus file otherwise it is just a normal text file which contains commands to be executed during startup of windows. During the DOS version we used an similar file called autorun.bat .

True about the Commands, very out of date, BUT I have experienced AV software that gave me a tons of problems and even put viruses on my PC, so I don’t use anything. Its best to learn how to set up a PC correctly and not install any crap you don’t need and control / verify whatever you do install.
