Ok. Where do I start. I started as a software developer/engineer in January 1976 after graduating from an IBM training program. I used Cobol on the mainframe and databus on Datapoint mini-computers which was eventually replaced by the Wang. I have had every position was mentioned except for anything having to do with security. I'm a certified Data Scientist. You will be completing for those jobs with people from India and Russia who will undercut you in salary with the big established companies. A lot of IT has been down-sized and outsourced since the late 1990s. You should be looking to get jobs with young companies and start-ups. Go to meet-ups and join public projects to get your name published. Created a portfolio of projects you can talk about in interviews from a work experience point of view. Good luck to you all.
