Another perk is that it make you understand your own native language more

Pretending not to know the language spoken and then suddenly revealing it is one of my favourite tricks. Also, I love how different personality traits are revealed when I speak different languages. For example, an English-speaking me is the most confident me (although English is my third language).

I think that learning a language or multiple languages is very beneficial for brain health.

For me, there's three reasons. The first is being able to go to holiday destinations and speak to the people there in their native language (not just places like shops, but the hotels too). This is why I'm learning Spanish and Portuguese.

The second reason is bringing communities together. The country where I live has a decent sized population of Turkish and Polish people. That's why I want to learn those languages. You could fit Hindi into that category too.

Another big reason is simply sharing knowledge. There's so much in non-English texts that could be understood much easier if you're multilingual.

Top reason for being multilingual: switching personalities and even nationalities. So you don't get stuck forever with whatever shit you were born with without your permission.

I work in customer service. I love that I am able to communicate and help different people in their native languages if they do not speak English well enough to ask about things. I know English, Sign language, and learning Korean, Chinese, and Thai. I go to Korea in August for the first time ever and will be studying abroad for 2 months!! I'm SO excited!!

Same for me.
Especially the research part. In uni, I did a ton of researches in Korean and German (while also typing some keywords in Chinese than Google Translate as I just know a few Hanja), while my friends did theirs in Japanese and French. And our research was so much richer, and we got to understand lots of cool things together.

And yes, the feeling when you are able to understand other languages and communicate when you travel is so satisfying, and continue to inspire to learn more languages. (Not gossiping but when i was at the Wat Arun in Thailand last month, i came across this family of Korean. I was simply enjoying and taking my time, they are in front of me and they must have thought that they were standing in my way - which they were not - so they said sorry and stopped taking pics and said I can go through, I just simply replied in Korean that 'it's okay, they can go on, I'm just wandering' and they were kinda taken aback).

Last but not least, the music part is incredible. Sometimes the translation can never do the full justice to the lyrics, and being able to understand the original is just on another level.

Understanding the humor of another culture, reading literature in multiple languages, having a richer "total" emotional vocabulary (useful both to process my feelings internally, and to communicate with people with whom I can code switch)

Could you please make a video on conversations you’ve overheard in other Languages like the one you mentioned? Stories like that are super entertaining and I’m sure you’ve had a lot of similar experiences!
Love your videos btw❤❤

Sooo much great content you can enjoy now while fully understanding untranslatable words and cultural elements! What I also find really great is that there's a lot of international students in my city, so when I get the chance to speak to them in their native language, I hope they feel a little more at home!

When I force my thoughts into language, they take different forms based on the language (probably also related to the things I associate with the language, like a certain culture). Which I find fascinating.
(I actually suck at French and Japanese, though, too little actual use, still hard to find interesting and comprehensible input)
