Aging Realistically

I was going to title this one "Aging Disgracefully" but then I thought that it was a bit too mean. Honestly, anyone should do what they want - I'm just sad that so many women want to be on the Muppet Show... not as a guest, but as a cast member.

Huge respect for saying it, aging gracefully has become a totally lost art. Let's bring it back Fran!

Human psychology is a strange beast. You be you. Well said.

Men don't want that. I know no man, including myself, that likes any women, celebrity or not, having cosmetic surgery. You must have been exposed to some awful people. Besides, "they" don't all do it. Michelle Pfeiffer has no cosmetic surgery. Meryl Streep is another one, Helen mirren, Susan Sarandon, Sigourney Weaver, Cate Blanchett, Diane Keaton .. the list goes on. There are many that just grow old gracefully with no more than a little hair color.

The best gift I can give my family, especially my grandsons, is to try to age gracefully with gratitude and acceptance. I hope that when they get older and begin to contemplate mortality, they will remember a positive example set by their grandfather. I am 78 years old and I am a much better person now than I was in my youth, young adulthood, and middle age. I don't know why it took me so long to "grow up" mentally and emotionally, but I am grateful for the change and would not go back even if I could.

When I rented my 100sqm lab there was a cosmetic surgeon next door. Every day I watched as women in their 20's left uglier than when they came in. The clientel was almost exclusively young women. I would see their progression over 2 years as they started out quite attractive and then got progressively more hidiously ugly, some to the point that I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole. It was depressing to see. They would hold botox parties in the evenings, all tarted up. They do it to themselves willingly.
All the naturally attractive women are at the gym with no make up staying physically fit.

Muppet faces is a perfect way to describe it. I don't get how anyone thinks that a fake plastic face looks better than a natural face at any age.

I am 72. My wife is 70. We have been married for 25 years. We are growing old naturally. I love my wife very much. In my eyes, she is still beautiful!

You made me laugh at the muppet face comment. 😂 You look great to me. No idea of your age, but it doesn’t matter a rats behind.

I think you look great Fran. I come to your channel for your expertise in electronics, but I love you also for your kind demeanour and honesty.

100% in agreement with everything you say! I briefly thought about tinting my hair but it is clear that eventually it becomes very obvious that trying to look young is failing. At that point one starts to look ridiculous. Especially men who look like they rub boot polish into the hair (e.g. Rudy J). Both I and my wife are aging gracefully with dignity. I think my wife looks beautiful with pepper and salt and I think my silver is very dignified.

As a man in who's just turned 50, it's so true about the muppet faces that are appearing all around me. I like the real faces of people I care about. Age is part of life. This youth worshiping mentality of society is so broken. So glad you addressed the subject so frankly Fran! Keep up the real, and thought provoking videos! Love em!

When I was a little boy my mother told me consider yourself lucky if you live to get old not everyone does. The next thing will be right out of the movie “Logan’s Run”.

Well said. I'm 53, bald (by choice because I don't like combovers or see-through hair), I sleep in 1 1/2-3 hour shifts because of physiological changes that lead to numbness and/or pain (yes I've seen my doctor, a nutritionist, and an specialist. I don't want any advice from a layperson). I'm still loving life, even while I'm even more aware that it's the adults that make life difficult. I'll accept you for you (unless you're one of those that try to make things more difficult), and expect the same in return.

In counter to your statement about plastic surgery: a lot (if not all) Soap Opera male leads have had work done. Jamie Lee Curtis is an absolute hero for allowing the world to see her for who she is, as is Sigourney Weaver.

I would dye my hair... if I could find it but unfortunately we parted company decades ago. I find the modern obsession with cosmetic surgery to be a tragedy. It also amazes me that there are (clearly) still men who judge women based on their physical appearance rather than their more important virtues. Maybe I'm just too "old school".

I like seeing all the electronic stuff hanging around in your shop. It looks like a happy fortress of solitude.
