Tesla: Here is the new subscription to charge your home during outage.

How do you expect them to sell their powerwalls if they allow that?

Yes, if both Ford and Hyundai could do it Tesla should be able to do that. It should be standard on every EV.

10 yrs. ago, the power went out in my area for about 5 hr., too. Only time in 45 yrs. and the power company still made alterations to increase reliability.

In Melbourne. Have 6.4kw roof PV system & Powerwall2 (with standalone power isolation feature add-on in case of grid going down). I use no power from the grid (ever) normally as battery easily gets me through the night, even house heating using modern reverse cycle AC (heat pump). I had "Stormwatch" setting turned on in Tesla App which meant that during the recent storms my house used grid power (after solar PV's stopped providing power, rather than switching to battery at night). This kept battery at 100% so that if the Grid went down I'd have max longevity from battery - for me up to perhaps 8+ hours. I've a MY on order but still would have a Powerwall as it gives so much flexibilty especially when the car will be out. I'm looking at how to "trickle feed" the model Y from Solar as from my estimates I already nearly feed enough power back into the grid that i could otherwise be feeding into the car. The battery gets fully usually between 11am - 1pm most days leaving the rest of the day to feed into the car. Obviously i still will want a wall charger (240v 3 phase) for faster charging when wanted. I'm looking at sqeezing mor panels on the roof....

I’ve been screaming from the roof tops for years about this! Tesla needs to do vehicle to grid!!!!

In fact, you can: you will just need an intermediate battery with a powerful invertor, like EcoFlow or Jackery, that would in turn charge from your Tesla on 12V. The 12V car plug is limited to 10A, so it's 120W only. But typically, you don't need a lot of power all of the time. The external battery will provide for your peaks, the Tesla battery will provide for consistent, long-term (slow) supply. Not perfect, but easily doable today!

There is a missing hardware in car in order to transfer the electricity back to house. 😢
I guess Tesla want us to buy Power walls! lol

They had the capability with the roadster and early releases of the S but noticed that barely anyone was using it so they got rid of the functionality. 🤷🏼‍♂️

They should make the other side look like a charge port, but in reality, it’s a power transfer port. Would be seriously useful in cases like this.

I live near Epping and luckily it only rained a little bit but no power outage happened cool to see teslas could be used to power homes in future

IF you can access the 12V (standard car battery—should be under the frunk plastic) then you can hook an easy clamp inverter; 1000W easy. I do this with my Bolt EUV (which has the guts right under the hood.) Hope to get a Tesla someday but I LOVE having portable power!

If you’re in Australia, Tesla is more interested in selling large battery parcs to the gvt instead of vehicle to house!

Still puzzles me why Tesla doesnt do V2L. I mean sure at first no as would take Powerwall sales, but after other EVs started doing it, why not do it then?

E-GMP platform has it including 800v and so many features and additions. We got Teslas but recently switched after it became obvious that Tesla is always minimizing to push their costs down as much as they can

So, do you know that scene in Apollo 13 where they need more scrubbers for the LEM, and fortunately they have some in the command module… but those scrubbers are square, and won’t fit the LEM's round receptacles? I’m reminded of that scene…

In South Africa we have power outages a lot. When it gets bad, it’s 4 hours 3times a day…

That 57.5 kwh version would be a nice in North America. Unfortunately, Americans have a stupid range anxiety despite only driving to the grocery store and back 😅

Why are blackouts such a common thing in the US? I am a European 16 year old and I have never experienced a single one in my life

In south africa we get loadshedding and if it’s bad, you will have 4hr power cuts about twice a day 😅
