Clearly, from scripture, we know there are different degrees of sin: John 19:11 "...the one who delivered Me to you has the greater sin.”, Matthew 12:30-32 the unpardonable sin, 1 John 16-17 there is sin unto death but not all sin, Luke 12:47-48 willful sin is punished greater than sin in ignorance. Yes, all sin separates us from God and requires a savior (Jesus) for forgiveness and reconciliation, justification, but common sense tells us not all sins are equal. The God of the Bible is a just God, He does not punish some man who dies young not even knowing the name of Christ to the same degree as a Hitler, Stalin, or Satan.

This is the 2nd video that does not answer the question asked. I wanted to know how God sees various sins, NOT how we're supposed to "balance" our understanding of sin in our society!

Certainly sins are not equal. God would not be a God of justice if they were. 1 John 5:16 says some sins are unto death and some sins not. Jesus talks about straining gnats and swallowing camels (worrying about small sins and ignoring big sins).

All sin has the same consequences in God's eyes because he is holy and his standards are the same for all sin.

Think about it like this, if someone spit in one glass of water a little bit vs spitting a lot in another glass would you consider either glass of water exceptable to drink? I doubt anyone would...I think this is how God views all sin, its unacceptable just like either glass of water with spit in it regardless of how little or how much. Both glasses deserve to be cleaned, just as to God, all sin is deserving of death.

Now despite all sin resulting in death at some point it doesn't mean that the consequences of each sin before death will be the same. Since we are all sinful and continue living after we sin we still have to face the consequences of our sin. For example if we have unprotected sex with someone we are not married to and end up with an unwanted child that is definitely a horrible consequence. Versus telling a lie to someone we know which may result in that person not trusting you as much anymore....both are sins deserving of death but both have difference circumstances to live with.

All sins are sin by definition, however, there is gravity when it comes to a specific offense against God.

what happens to a Christian if he sins AFTER salvation any of the sins mentioned in these lists, Mark 7:21-23; Rom. 1:18-32; 1 Cor. 6:9, 10: Gal. 5:19-21; 1 Tim. 1:9, 10; 2 Tim. 3:1-5; Rev. 21:8 does he remain saved or he must repent and abandon them before he dies?
Paul rebuked Christians who sinned immoral sins after salvation for not repenting.
"lest, when I come again, my God will humble me among you, and I shall mourn for many who have sinned before and have not repented of the uncleanness, fornication, and lewdness which they have practiced." 2 Cor 12:21

It just struck me that all sins are equal according to God - for every sin involves us missing the mark. And we all sin as we were born into sin through the first Adam, and we are delivered from it through the second Adam.
And while all sins are equal according to God, according to man, they have different weightings. I guess that's the way we can diminish the smaller sins...

Sin is sin, lie is lie, murder is murder and so on. Obviously there’s a huge difference between lying to your friend or killing him.

The FIRST one was the most consequential! Think of how many went to HELL since that first sin! And how much SUFFERING mankind has endured because of it. This includes EVERYONE since that day. Sickness, violence, wars, assaults, accidents, death.

Yes sin is sin but if you read the old testament Laws you will be surprised when you find out how many we are guilty of breaking. The law is our school master to lead us to Christ for salvation. If we hadn't of had the law how would we ever had known that we were sinners in need of salvation.

so what you're saying is man is a better judge of sin than God. And yet you never once bring up one passage of scripture to back up your claim that to God "sin is sin." You will never find a single verse in all the Bible where God says all sin is equal before him. This idea is heretical and even blasphemous. Appalling.

On the contrary, God lists several things as abominations -- sins which are worse than others. He says, in Proverbs 6:16-19, 16:
These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:
17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,
18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,
19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

God also says Leviticus 18:22 - Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it [is] abomination. And in Deuteronomy 22:5 - The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so [are] abomination unto the LORD thy God.

Note that in today's modern culture, what is virtuous to men and women nowadays is actually an abomination to God. We do NOT know better than God. God does not call all things an abomination. The very word denotes God hates some things worse than others.

However, for an example of a sin that God does not judge as harshly, Proverbs 6:30 says, "People do not despise a thief if he steals to satisfy his hunger when he is starving."

Jesus, as well as the OT, promises stiffer punishment for knowing the right and still doing wrong than for doing doing wrong out of ignorance.

There is even an unforgiveable sin: blaspheme of the Holy Spirit.

And then of course, God puts special emphasis on the Ten Commandments, as we all used to do.

Finally, it wasn't for just venial sins that Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed. And Jesus said it would be worse in the Day of Judgement -- when God will judge everyone according to their works, every idle word -- for those towns he went to in person that rejected him.

This man is preaching something that tickles the ears of modern society, but is not the truth according to the Holy Word of God.

1 John 5:16-17 spells it out clearly. Also Paul in 1 Corotians 5 and on writes about some sins that will cause you to be banned out of the church if you don't repent.
