Been using a dim bulb tester for years. I have 6 bulbs in mine with a bank of switches so I can run one or multiple bulbs. Having a selection of different wattage bulbs let's me select the current limit.

Great idea, email answer videos. May have to borrow this idea from you once in a while.

Buddy A dim bulb tester will keep our radios from a lot more damage. Used these at my past employer, was a maint tech for 34 years. Our engineers started the dim bulbs on our injection machines before and after repairs. Great explanation. Thank You

Too bad incandecent bulbs are not stocked anymore. Would have loved to get that current limiting bulb setup. Great video buddy.

Great video. Would like to see more. :-) Learned about the dim bulb tester from one of Peter's TRX Bench videos. I don't have a variac nor the switched recepticles, but what I did was rewire a six outlet power strip so I could plug in my FT901DM then use a 40W bulb and if it glowed dim, add a 60W bulb, then a 100W bulb. If all three still glowed dim, then it was safe to power the radio directly from the ac outlet. The radio was OK, even after sitting for 25 years. I still need to recap the radio when I have the time. 73 WB3BJU

Your dim bulb tester is more fancy than mine. Mine is just a power cord into a pull switched bulb base then into an outlet. Basically your first drawing. I need to get myself a variac ...
