CLIP DESCRIPTION:
During a reunion lunch between Nicholas (Michael Douglas) and his troubled brother Conrad (Sean Penn), Nicholas gets a mysterious invitation as a birthday gift.

FILM DESCRIPTION:
Director David Fincher followed the success of his dark and atmospheric crime thriller Seven (1995) with another exercise in stylish film noir, this time lifting the pallid atmosphere a notch to indulge in a fast-paced trip through the cinematic funhouse. Michael Douglas plays Nicholas Van Orton, a Scrooge-like San Francisco investment banker following in his father's Scrooge-like footsteps. On Nicholas's 48th birthday (the age at which his father committed suicide), his younger, free-spirited brother Conrad (Sean Penn) blows into town and gives Nicholas a special gift for "the man who has everything" -- a ticket to CRS (Consumer Recreation Services), a company that constructs games custom-fit for each participant to provide, as CRS salesman Jim Feingold (James Rebhorn) cryptically puts it, "whatever is lacking." Nicholas's secure life begins a downhill slide as CRS masterminds a series of elaborate pranks, harmless at first, that quickly become malicious and life-threatening. Stripped of financial resources and convinced that he can trust no one, Nicholas begins to wonder if CRS is a front for a more covert operation, and if the game is in fact an attempt to steal his fortune and leave him for dead. Determined to fight back alone, Nicholas infiltrates CRS in order to "pull back the curtain and meet the wizard."

The atmosphere that Fincher creates is out of this world.

I’ve had lunch at the City Club. And it still looks the same after all these years. Fincher nailed this masterpiece of a movie.

First-class production and storyline. One of my favorite films.

I keep telling people half my age to watch this film but none of them will. I only tell them this because the art of Hollywood film making is mostly now dead.

This film was and still is phenomenal!!

As a native San Franciscan, this is my favorite San Francisco movie of all time. Much of it is at night, downtown at night - love it, and no Cable Cars, Alcatraz, or Sean Connery driving a Humvee throughout NorthBeach.

Don't get me wrong I love Cable Cars. The best is on the way home from work on a Friday night drunk from the bar with your workmates and beautiful ladies there as well, hanging off the edges.

The love Conrad had for his brother, Nicholas - AMAZING. This movie made me tear up at the end.

This character is good man, they didn't have to do that to wake him up or make him realize his wrongful ways. Or how his people are involved with him perceive him to be.

Call me crazy, but the waitress spilling the drink makes me think the Game is already happening.

I really, really liked this film and even the ending. Yes, I am probably the only one who liked the ending but I really truly think it was effective the way it ended.

Nicky: Well, you can't smoke here.
Conrad: I'm with you.
Nicky: It's illegal to smoke in restaurants in California.
Conrad: Fuck California.

LOL! I love it! Penn and Douglas were so good in this movie!

I think when it was all said and done, Nicholas Van Orton was thankful and grateful for his game that he was given. It made me think: "what if he wanted to play again?" Would the company oblige or does each participant just get one game only?
