Here are the steps (In everyday English!)
1)Let the function you're looking for =m e.g: f(x)=m
2)The other function that is given, make it in terms of "m" e.g: g(x)=x-2 --> f(m)=m-2
3)Equate the newly formed "m" equation with the given composite function e.g: (x+2)/3=m-2
4)Make "m" the subject of the formula (leave it on its own on one side of the equation from step 3) e.g: m=(x+2)/3 + 2
5)This is the equation you are looking for, so put it back in terms of f(x) or g(x) or anyhow the equation was given. e.g: f(x)=(x+2)/3 + 2

I don’t understand how you were then able to make g(x)=x-2 into g(m)= m-2. In this case, you are saying that m is equal to x, which is fine. in the other equation, you said m=f(x), which is different than just x. So if they are different variables how are you able to set them equal to each other?
