Time to get an ND. Not against electrification, but I like analog gauges more

Whatever configuration, if they kill the manual transmission, the miata will be no longer the same.

6'2 and I loved my Miata. The height issue was easily remedied with an aftermarket seat bracket which is also required for most tracks if you have the soft top.

Hey Kirk, Mazda ND 2022 owner here. The future Mx-5 looks exciting but I got the ND exactly for the reasons you mentioned: last pure ICE car, light weight and pretty simple overall.

To everyone saying they want the MX5 to be bigger: Please stop.

Keep the roadster small, tight, and maybe increase power. That's it.

The smile my 21 ND2 puts on my face only gets bigger and bigger with each year. It is one of the last fully gasoline powered Miatas… then this smile might tear right through my ears.

Now I can say "NE" (any) Miata is always the answer.

I just bought a 2022 Grand Touring. If next gen goes hybrid then I'm really glad I have mine. Traditional roadster, ICE rear wheel drive 6M bliss. More cabin room? Its' a roadster. Try driving an MG from the 70's.

i dunno why anyone would want this car to be bigger or more powerful. i'm 6'1" and the nd1 is my daily and my road tripper. guess i'll get a deal on an nd3

I’m 6’4” and just got an ND1 grand touring and still got and extra inch of headroom. I put a Goodwin road-street exhaust and it’s really fun. Basically a go-cart for rides along the beach.

That vision study concept would be AMAZING.

My dad had a ‘90 or “91 and now has a 2006 and still loves it. I feel it’s a bit tight for me and I’m not even that big.

I would love to see NC dimension which include a glovebox and smooth lines. I would also love to see HEV with DCT with PRHT instead of RF and I will be inline for my fifth Miata.

Putting the battery further away from the center of the car is actually worse weight distrubution, as it increases the moment of inertia of the car causing slower turn-in and response
there's more to a car than 50/50 weight

I hope for a slightly more practical and roomier interior and boot space. Had an NC for 6 years and now 2 yrs into ND ownership and it feels cramped all of the time. Love the updated tech such as Apple CPand blind spot monitoring and the likes.
Great car, great fun to drive and to a certain extend still affordable.

I am a previous NA8 and current ND2 owner that adores the lightweight, purity, and playful Miata driving experience. There is nothing else built today that is quite like it.

So while it is natural to be skeptical of an electrified Miata, if there’s a manufacturer that can get it right it would be Mazda. They know how to build brilliant driving vehicles and they’ve earned the benefit of the doubt. Even if the NE formula is changed from earlier Miatas, I am glad that Mazda is committed to continue building us a sports car. I am looking forward to seeing what the NE brings.

Thanks for the update Kirk ! A belt driven electric motor would be the easiest way for Mazda to make the MX-5 a Hybrid. Still love driving my 2016 Club soft top with the Brembo / BBS package & weight was designed out of my car. Mazda engineers are very good at delivering on design goals. My extended warranty ends in 2025 so the timing of this new NE falls right into place for me.

No pop-up headlights? 😢

Can we at least get a slightly bigger one with the 6-cylinder?

As an MX5 owner, I'm a little nervous about the driving feel going numb and all the autonomous safety assists ruining the fun of the car. However, if they can keep it light, keep it simple, and keep it analog feeling. I feel like the next gen will be a great car

Thanks a lot for the update about the miata 😄 now I can confidently wait a bit more until I save more money to a nd2. I still have time until 2024 to order one.
