I am a Ukrainian. My country has been invaded by Russia. In this video I will tell you what happened on the one hundred and forty fourth day of the war.
Day 144: July 16
In the Sloviansk direction, apart from shelling the prefrontal settlements, there was no active action today. This is highly likely the quiet before the storm, especially given that the Russian Defense Minister ordered Southern Group Commander General and Central Group Commander Colonel General to increase offensive operations on all axes, so very soon tough fights will resume in this direction.
In the Siversk direction, the Russians are actively trying to take this town. Today the Russians led several assaults. The first assault was in the village of Hryhorivka. The Russians once again tried to enter this village, but without success. The second assault was in the village of Verkhnokamianske. The Russians tried to gain full control over the settlement, however, suffered too high losses during this attack and had to retreat. The third attack was in Ivano-Darivka. The Russians launched another yet attack from Spirne, but were caught on the approaches and repelled. The Russians also shelled the Ukrainian positions between Zvanivka and Ivano-Darivka very intensely, while the Ukrainians seem to have identified an area of concentration of the Russians forces in the forest on the other bank of the river and shelled this region very heavily.
In the Soledar direction, the Russians started the day from heavy shelling, which they tried to follow up with attacks on Yakovkivka, Bilohorivka and Berestove. After some clashes, they were forces to retreat, while the Ukrainians continue controlling the road Bakhmut-Lysychansk in this region.
In the Bakhmut direction, the Russians also conducted several attacks. Their first series of attacks involved airstrikes and were conducted in the area of Pokrovsk, Novoluhanske and the Vuhlehirska Thermal Power Plant. After that they also launched an assault on Novoluhanske, but did not gain control over this settlement. Simultaneously, the Russians have been heavily shelling Ukrainians forces in the rear that are located to the south of Bakhmut. It is highly likely that the Ukrainians decided to make an enforced area in this region, which the Russians are trying to prevent from strengthening. The Ukrainians in turn continue to identify and destroy Russian ammunition depots deep in the area under their control. Today the Ukrainians heavily shelled Alchevsk, and the areas near Illiria, Miusynsk, Ternove, Shyroke and quite a few others.
In the south-east, there are a few important updates. Over the last several days, the Russians have made a number of assaults on the village of Kamianka that is located right in front of Avdiidvka. In the aftermath in these attacks Ukrainian sources indicated that these attacks were repelled, while Russian sources indicate that the village was captured. If this village was indeed captured we should see hostilities in the area of Vesele and Druha Novoselivka, because this would be the next logical step in taking Avdiivka in a circle.
In the south, when it comes to the Ukrainian offensive operation near Vuhledar, we can see that it has halted. It seems like the Ukrainians here are lacking the means for a proper offensive. I think that this move was never meant to be large-scale. It seems to me that the Ukrainians just identified that the Russian defense in this region was weak after they relocated a lot of forces from here to other directions, and that is why they tried to take advantage of that by taking several villages. The village of Pavlivka is still under the Ukrainian control, while the others are reportedly in the grey zone as no partly has full control over them.
In the second southern direction, the offensive operation has not started, however, the Ukrainians increased the number of successful attacks from the air. Today the Ukrainians destroyed yet another ammunition depot in Lazurne, and also hit Chaplinka and Chornobaivka, but it is unclear what was the target of the last two attacks. It is possible that the Ukrainians are trying to cause damage to the Russian supply chain before they attack them.
