i think people forget that the reason why you’re seeing more teen moms is simply because you’re seeing more people due to social media. we actually talked about this in one of my psychology classes. Teen pregnancy has been declining for decades. We have a lot less teen moms then past generations. You just now SEE them more because they’re at your reach with your phone.

As a wise person once said

"Support pregnant teens, but don't support teen pregnancy"

It's only glamorous when your parents are rich and fully supportive

My cousins daughter started dating and I told my cousin to get her on birth control and she said no she doesn't want to encourage her daughter to have sex. Her daughter fell pregnant literally 2 months later. I found her reasoning as very weird because my cousin did also fall pregnant at 15 so she should of known that teen pregnancy was a possibility yet she chose to bury her head in the sand.

I would also love to point out the disparity between what we see on TikTok vs the reality. I have seen a lot of the teen moms on TikTok who are middle class or upper middle class. This contributes to the “fantasy” of teen parenthood we’re seeing. We don’t see a lot of the stories of teen parents who had to STRUGGLE for everything they got, not saying that these young parents don’t struggle, but so many of these “cute” TikTok parents and kids also have so much financial support from their parents, this allows them to have a fantasy TikTok presence that makes other teens susceptible for thinking that it’s going to be all sunshine and roses.

I became a mother at 24 and even that felt too young to be a mother! I couldn't imagine falling pregnant at 15, 16 and having to face the brutal force of responsibility and sacrifice that comes with having a baby. I'm 26 now and my baby is my absolute heart and soul 💛, but my advice to any young girl that wants to be a mum - go live your life a little bit first and enjoy being young before you bring another life into the world.

Also there would be girls on TIKTOK talking abt “ POV: you took the risk” and honestly it’s not cute, having a baby at a young age can cause lots of stress.

I'm 38, married, and have 2 kids, (13 and 11 whom I love dearly) but let me just say, BABIES👏🏾 DON'T👏🏾 STAY They GROW UP and STILL need parents!!!! Believe it or not, the baby preschool age is EASY. It actually gets MUCH harder as they grow up. And EXPENSIVE!!!

I didn't have kids until AFTER I graduated college, was married, had a full time job with benefits, had bought a house with my husband, and was NOT relying on my parents for anything....AND👏🏾 IT 👏🏾WAS 👏🏾STILL👏🏾 HARD!!! Yes, even with a husband who is very hands on and active as a father.

I know it's people who have kids as teens and seem to do fine, but listen to an elder like myself, if you're not financially stable, living on your own and paying your own bills, and not in a secure relationship, DO 👏🏾NOT👏🏾DO 👏🏾IT!!

It’s hard being a parent. No matter the age. I had my first child at 18, had to move out of my parents house, had to get a job, and I had to work twice as hard. I didn’t enjoy my youth. I was lucky to have support so that I could finish school, get multiple degrees, and work a good job. But it’s so hard. It’s not a walk in the park.

I've seen multiple teen moms on tiktok say that they wanted to have kids young so they can go out and have fun in their 30s and 40s. That is not a good reason to have a kid young. I think that's another conversation, this fear of aging and trying to keep this youth.
There is a girl on there who planned her pregnancy at 15/16 with a guy she'd only been dating for a few months. I honestly think she glamourizes it, she doesn't show or really talk about the struggles. She makes it look like this amazing thing.

I never understood why young people would want kids. I was never able to be blinded by a cute baby or anything. I always new that it would be sleepless night and sickness and loss of money and friends and time. I’m 19 now and it’s not even a thought in my head. I’m not financially or emotionally ready. I don’t think I’ll ever be.

No child is ready to have sex. Period. It doesn’t matter if you “think” you’re ready. You’re not.

Perfect example: my fiancé who is a woman was never taught sex ed. Her mother also never had a sex talk or a talk about periods. I’m not saying this is the norm but it’s not uncommon for this to happen.
My parents never had that talk with me and shamed me for having sex (although I wasn’t) after I got a yeast infection as a teen. Though my parents didn’t have the talk with me, they enlisted the women in my family to have these conversations but honestly the talks I had still weren’t extensive enough.

Being young and prego isn’t new but social media reinforces the fact

I'm +20 and there's no way I can see myself with kids like, I see someone at my age and I think "OMG teen pregnancy" when it's not but I don't even feel/look like an adult 💀

I blame the parents PERIOD. The amount of enabling today is beyond me. You have mothers pushing their daughters to have babies because they’re bored. The world is damaged.

I feel more than anything I see more couples that haven’t been together very long, (less than 9 months or a pregnancy) that are having kids, which I also feel like will have negative effects in the future.
