Redo Backup is very old. It has not been updated since 2012. Fortunately there is a new project called 'Rescuezilla' which continues the development of Redo. Please use it!

How did you do a bootable USB with the iso file?
I used
sudo umount /dev/sdX
sudo dd of=/dev/sdX bs=4M && sync

in terminal, where X is the name of the usb device.
But after that, I couldn't boot from the device even though that
 worked with other images like other linux distros
