John’s acting is so great in this movie, perhaps the best scene is at the end where his expression changes and without a word he unhinges the audience.

His point about the 'obsession' is SPOT on. Zodiac was insanely obsessive, so was Robert Graysmith.

Superb actor. That moment near the end of The Founder when he stares at Ray Croc (Michael Keaton) as he's signing the papers to acquire McDonalds - disgust, defeat, disdain and disbelief all that in one look. Great acting.

Another reason why David telling him to play the role as if he was innocent was a genius decision is that we see what we want to see in his performance.
I've seen this film countless times, and while I could see the possiblity of innocence, I always thought the actor played it as if he was the Zodiac. Hearing he was told to play it as if he was innocent just shines a light on this. Sometimes you see what you want to see, and since the movie portrays a strong bias in the belief that Arthur is the Zodiac, we want to believe it too and we want see it in the perfirmance. But people can act strange without being a killer, and it's still possible that Arthur was not the Zodiac irl.

Incredible filmmaking and so much talent, truly a great film all around.

I think Fincher did a great thing casting the "nicest guy ever" as the potential killer. It really sows the seeds of doubt in your mind as to if he did it or not.

Not only a good actor, but very respectful, and talked about the movie and not him. Very rare in an actor in today's world. The only other actor I can think of who was not self aggrandizing is the late John Hurt.

Just watched Zodiac last night. Was a major surprise seeing the caring, laid back husband from Fargo and the humorous barber from Gran Torino play one of the suspects in a serial killer case. Dude did a great job, but even I was surprised at how cold he could be.
