Moments of silence are just as important if not more important than moments of sound.

I’ve sung multiple songs of yours in choirs, and I totally have felt this concept come into play, it’s magnificent work for sure!

Pity that so few people attending classical music performances actually take silence as a part of a piece.
For me there's nothing more impacting in classical music than silence between sounds.

There was a music just a second ago, now it's gone and you can hear how the echoes of it die... And then another sound is born from that silence.
It sends shivers down my spine.

Love it❤❤❤

As a singer, I experienced the silence as a way to become the music... a symbiotic relationship between the singer and the composition.

Eric Whitacre is a 'brilliant' composer and talented conductor. His music is thoughtful, creative, uplifting, meaningful and purposeful in every way, setting new, powerful musical standards. Listen to him as he carefully describes his sound reasoning and musical motives..."it's alive, a living, breathing thing." YES! You have to close your eyes and just listen to all his marvelous choral works (let along sing and perform them); and your experience will help you feel totally lifted, satisfied and amazed.

In a rehearsal of your song "Home" we talked about this very thing. A student put it so well when she described the silence as having energy. We felt the beauty of the silence as we sang this piece.

My favorite musical moment I've ever performed was an eighth rest. I was in a drum and bugle corps and it was during the loudest part of the show. The entire corps went silent for just half a beat in unison before carrying on with the loud melody. We had practiced that one moment for hours and hours, to the point where it almost felt like an implosion, pulling back the sound we created before sending it back out. Silence done well can really be powerful, even when it's only a short moment.

What a profound beauty…..to describe silence in a composition….in such a way.

With this, I just realized: conductors are soundbenders!

Somebody call in the Avatar, we have a new element!

This is one of the ultimate concepts I’ve learned whilst being involved with other less classical/contemporary choral types of music.

Even in deathcore, the most important part isn’t how heavy you can chug a down-tuned guitar, it’s when you do it and when you don’t.

Thank you for inspiring not only fans of choral music but the rest of us who have taken those concepts into other genres 💪🏻

The silence in "A Boy and A Girl" is just as important as the notes. Arguably even more important. So beautiful!

Performance is an atmosphere, and the silence is an integral part of it

Silence arises mutually with sound. They require each other... just like up requires down. I'm glad you appreciate silence so much.

I play music synesthetically; I feel this to my core. Your words are beautifully orchestrated.
