Meet new-to-town bicycle mechanic and cyclist Ian, in our latest film “Ride”.

It’s the human power of turning feet over and over in a supple motion and the rhythm of your body moving side to side in time with the bike that has Ian enamoured. If he isn’t riding bikes, he is fixing bikes.

Bike Revive Tumut is set to become a local institution, a legacy where people connect over a shared zest for bikes. A place for cycling in all forms be it mountain biking, road biking, gravel riding, bike packing or e-biking.

“Ride your bike, don’t just romance the idea. Ride.”

He nailed it! Just ride your bike! I'm 65 yrs old and can't think of anything else I'd rather be doing than riding my bike! No matter what bike it is!

Riding my bike takes me back to that feeling of absolute freedom I felt when I was a kid on a bike. I’m now 66 years old. Still loving that freedom.

Whenever i bike, i took a short time to look up the sky, took a deep breath, and i feel a great sense of freedom. It's a stress release to me.

Just turned 87 this September. Been riding forever. A lifetime sport. Just traded my Lemond Zurich for a rather expensive Specialized eBike. Bought this for an expected move to a home up a long, steep hill in Washington state. That changed, but here in Tucson, Arizona I ride this one daily for 90 minutes up and down a local highway. Traffic zooms by at 65 mph, but you have to just accept it as part of the game. After my Dutch wife died, I traveled to Holland and rented a bike at a local bike shop. Rode that bike all over that great country. A very bicycle friendly country. Fietspads everywhere.

“The best bikes don’t get purchased and ridden out the door—the best bikes get purchased, ridden some, considered and then modified accordingly”

TRUE. I got my old 2004 MTB bike with 26' wheels..and totally modified it. I painted it, changed fully transmission, handlebar, saddle, wheels. Now it's MY bike, for my NEEDS.

I'm in my 50s and still every time I go ride it brings out a big ole grin! Wish you were my bike shop!

You are so right. I am 76, and love riding - alone and with my Saturday morning group. It's freedom, and certainly great exercise. God gave us great bodies, and many years to enjoy what we have. Don't worry about being the fastest, be thankful that you can ride at all. Ride!

My top two favorite insights:
3:40 “No, people don’t need top shelf, what they really need is anything, and anything tuned well”
4:08 “The best bikes don’t get purchased and ridden out the door—the best bikes get purchased, ridden some, considered and then modified accordingly”

Absolutely so true man! Ride your bike, don't be that snob that show off with only nice weather in mind. I commute every day to my work, I'm healthy and it keeps my mind free. It's not about top speed and your GPS, Strava or whatever. Just for showing off that stuff... Get your bike and just ride and be free... 🚲✊🏼

There's nothing quite like the feeling of riding a bike that's put together well. When you also find that perfect asphalt to ride on, with the wind in your back, it's like flying.

This was brilliant. What a guy, the world needs more Ian’s.

In this video, you have embraced what cycling and the love of bicycles is all about. I bought a bike 14 years ago, rode it 6 times and stowed it away for 13 years. Took it out, considered it, modified it and I ride everyday. It’s not a top end bike and some mechanics and bike shops make fun. But I love it and the freedom it gives me.

I love to ride in the rain of the Pacific North West, especially in the forest.

Back then 35 years ago as a kid I rode my bike and enjoyed it - cause most of my freedom was my bike. I could strawl around, meet my friends and experience adventures. Then I got my driving license and forgot my bike. I drove an enduro motorcycle and afterwards a car. Now I'm over 40 years and got back to the beginning with an enduro mountain bike. And again I can strawl around, meet my friends and experience adventures. Hopefully my little son will ride with me someday as well.
