For several grows now, I cut out a plastic disc out of 6 - 9 mil plastic sheets. Kinda like the earth boxes but no elastic, they just set inside. Easy to clean, reusable and very obtainable at home ive seen several benefits and zero drawbacks. Remove to water... Reusable mulch layer... Pest barrier.

Hope this helps or inspires! Cheers 🔥💨🦨✌️👊

I have found that 4 heaping tablespoons of quality neem cake per gallon aerated for 24 hrs and watered in with a pump sprayer for full coverage, paying particular attention to the edges of the pots where they can crawl down the sides will eradicate them in 2 treatments usually. 72 hrs apart on the treatments. Best part is the plants love it. I have seen NO negative effects from this process. On 15 gal pots I use about 1/2 gal per pot per treatment.

I appreciate you talking about Coast of Maine when talking about quality inputs

Mosquito Bits and BB solved my gnat problem. It was bad. Like the guys in the question. It was making me question living soil but I literally do not have a single gnat now when I open up my tents.

I have used a barrier for fungus gnats using rice hulls. Works very well for me.

When I first started growing with organic living soil I got fungus gnats really bad…I sucked up the top 2” of soil with a shop vac & discarded it…watered in nematodes & replaced top layer with perlite & sand…ordered up rove beetles as well! I now add nematodes to every soil I mix up & every time I pot up to final pots & have not had any issues since 👍

Dry dust completely top to bottom with organic cinnamon powder, lil heavier at the base on and around the stock.. helps with nutrition, insects, mold/fungus issues, try not to water for a couple of days..if you must, water lightly will not harm the roots promotes root health and helps with aid in disease

Beneficial nematodes and BTI (mosquito bits are my preference) work great for fungus gnats. BN gets applied once or twice. BTI can be applied a few times until the gnats are under control. Plus, the material that carries the BN and BTI is usually corn cobs, so it will benefit the microbes, worms, and insects as it breaks down.
Barriers work (sand or perlite) but they're a pain in the ass to remove after the fact.
Plus, fungus gnats aren't a huge problem. Organic growing (obviously) has a lot of organic matter in the soil. As long a the gnats have organic material to eat other than your plants roots, then they shouldn't really hurt the plants while you're working to resolve the issue. I panicked a few times in the past, but the gnats are very manageable and have never caused me any real problems other than being a nuisance.
BN and BTI are what I swear by to fix a gnat infestation.
Cheers on the great info again, Jeremy.

I've tried many things for fungus gnats, and the thing that has been the most effective and cost effective also, is mosquito dunks. I cut a dunk into 1/4's and put a chunk at the top of each of my pots and make sure to hit it with water when i water. My 2 year battle is over.

Regarding gnats, everything u said is true. But if it's bad, u are in veg and not in flower u can use Neem oil to the water u give the soil. That gets rid of the larvae.

This morning my grow tent shot up to 87.4% RH when my AC Infinity automation setup failed. (my fault)
Had dew all over my plants. Had to use a bunch of fans and a hair dryer on cool to get rid of the moisture.
Growing can be stressful and a lot of growers don't admit that problems happen.
It can make ya feel intimidated when you think you aren't the only one, but it's the norm. Even someone growing for decades is gonna encounter hurdles.
Just stay the course and keep growing!
Wish y'all some good harvests this season!

Yeah my first cycle had lots of gnats. Now they cant seem to live in my worm castings and soil top dress. I used card board rounds on top of my 10 gal fabric pots and it worked well.
