Aww, I felt bad for Jeremy with the 4x4 question. He's all hype for season 7, going all out with something new. He doesn't give off the vibe of tryna prove anything. But you can't satisfy everyone!

When I started my tent, it was mismatched outdoor pots that needed a few more weeks freeze-free than we had left. I slowly rotated out them out, but I think one of my bags still has the og soil. After applying the same compost and ammendments every top dress throughout the grows, they all end up behaving the same. All that to say that you can keep the soil forever but you can also keep making more. The way you cultivate will inevitably get you back to whatever particular type of biology. And then you can use the "old" (but still healthy) soil in other gardening projects.

I also rotate the soil out of my outdoor pots to refresh it with compost and such, then eventually back into a pot. The soil is still being used just in a different place, and I don't have to buy new bags of potting soil every year, just a little compost. I think of the rotation as a necessary compromise for fitting living soil in containers, especially for smaller pots.

I don't understand why people worry so much. Just put dirt in a bed and pop seeds, clone healthy plants, and just get on with it, don't stop because Jez said one thing one day and another thing another day. BaS has all the info you need to just start, just get out there and start doing it! If you lose trust because it's time to cycle the soil, then that's a you problem.

I have been growing in the same soil that I made in 2016. I have never tested it BUT I will say that imit really only seems to get better over time.

I didn't ask questions about using soil over and over but Jeremy has said in the last couple seasons that it was more about showing how well Build a soil different types of soils work.
