How the axiomatic method is the shape of mathematics, and how the self-educator, by understanding its structure, can learn mathematics on their own from reading math textbooks.

I thought I was the only weirdo wanting to learn mathematics just for the pleasure & pain of it. Glad to see there is a small tribe of us! Man, your video was very engaging - love the passion! Keep going brother. I’m joining this journey…

To someone trying to self study starting from nothing, I recommend to learn discrete math first since it’ll lay a foundation for logic, proofs, and set theory.

It is probably the best way to learn. No pressure of classes or homework assignments and math teachers who talk too fast and don't like questions. One must meditate on and savor the equations to make it understood at a deep level.

Most textbooks are surprisingly good when you’re not forced to do a disparate set of assigned problems and have to do labs, reports, and study for 4 other classes

I literally spent this evening trying to explain to my girlfriend why I wanted to try and get back into mathematics with a goal of delving into higher level pure math and physics. What an insane community to randomly stumble into the very same night. Amazing.

Even if just on the side, I would love so dearly to be able to actually play with the questions that never leave the back of my mind.

People call us madmen. But we are *mathmen*

Your channel is incredibly motivating. As a high school student who's planning on self studying higher mathematics, this channel is definitely a place that I will come to a lot over the years. It is very unique of a kind. Please do not stop making videos no matter what.

The self study, to me, is one hell of a rewarding activity! I've been learning the math prerequisites for intermediate level physics for about a year and half now, while taking the introductory physics sequence. I can work on all the prerequisites comfortably without the stress and cramming experienced and done in college.

This is why I love YouTube. I’m glad I’m not the only weirdo who enjoys math as a hobby.

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:

04:42 📚 Mathematics textbooks are structured using the axiomatic method, consisting of axioms (fundamental truths), theorems (conclusions from axioms), and proofs (evidence of theorems).
05:54 🧠 A theorem is an unproved statement based on axioms, while a proof provides evidence to confirm the theorem's validity.
08:15 🌐 Math textbooks often build upon previously proven theorems and may refer to concepts from other sources, making it important to understand the system.
09:24 📖 As you progress through a math textbook, theorems are developed in layers, drawing on previously established theorems and axioms.
10:07 📹 The axiomatic method is a crucial foundation for self-education in mathematics, allowing you to navigate complex mathematical systems effectively.

I'm a physics major and I'm really passionate about math, so my physics program only offers analysis and linear algebra so i self study the hardcore stuff but i barely find time.

I think I had a similar epiphany when I first read some of Euclid's work and I saw his fundamental axioms and how they functioned within the proofs. I think that was when I fell in love with Math as like a logical form of poetry. Everything in Math makes perfect sense, that's literally what makes it Math. Now, I'm midway through a degree in Applied Math's!

the axiom thing makes math extremely useful for science cus by small simple scientific discoveries, observations or hypothesis, you can develop a REALLY powerful theory that's based in not so many assumptions

like, REALLY powerful, and it can make predictions, I mean, that's the point of science

Your presentation style is seriously engaging. This should have thousands of more views, easily.

I wanted to know why massless photons (light) was bent by heavy objects. After two years of teaching myself classical mechanics, Lagrangians, tensor calculus, special relativity, differential geometry and general relativity, I now know the secret: it does not bend. It was worth the trip.

OH GOD !! If I ever have this type of library then I would probably never return to my home.

Dude, thank you for making this video. As a math tutor, it can be quite hard to explain why certain things in math work to students, but I'm definitely going to use your method to explain it now. I'm even going to use this now with my higher-level math courses now!

Cool stuff, I thought your sub count was 777k, but I'm mindblown to see the quality of content you’re producing for a channel with 777subs. Godspeed!

I'm the single one who has a teacher who is horrible at teaching and wants to self teach it?

I'm on the same journey. Immediately subbed. Love the content!
