I've been on bio-identical HRT for a few years and can't lose even a pound. Have actually gained about 20 pounds since all this peri-menopause started and now I'm post-menopause and still can't lose a single pound. So incredibly frustrating. Never EVER had a problem losing weight in my life before this. I'm working on ACCEPTING and LOVING my new, larger body. I have no other choice and I can't keep hating my own body like I have been. Hang in there, sisters!

I started taking HRT a little over a month ago. I am 50 y/o this month and perimenopausal. I really didn’t have many symptoms other than sleep and some mood swings. I did the research and believe that the other long-term benefits, ie, bone health, heart health, etc are worth it for me. I saw a meta study, I think out of Ireland, that reflected less weight gain for women taking HRT over their counterparts (over the long term). 🤷‍♀️ The statistics on women’s higher dementia rates led me to think it’s worth trying, given some of what I’ve read from Dr. Lisa Masconi, but I understand that we’re the lab rats in this matter. I put my chips on the HRT side of the scale.

WRT weight gain, I started at 120-122, now I fluctuate a bit higher at 122-124. I’ve also started creatine monohydrate (started a month before so the weight had already crept up), so I think it’s the creatine contributing to the weight gain. This weight is high for me. I’m 5’2 and a life long weight lifter who exercises consistently and eats a high protein, calorie focused diet. I weigh myself regularly to make sure it doesn’t get out of control. It is worrisome. I’ve learned over the years that we’re our own lab rats. I read all the research on weight lifting and diet obsessively over the years. It’s been mostly helpful, but now I also try my own path, test my own body in varying controlled ways. Best of luck, ladies. This is a great subject, great discussion. Very important!

I am getting motivated to work out again. Very low mood, tiredness, night sweats, muscle, and joint pain. Low mood was eased within a week. The rest are slowly easing off. I am not worried about weight gain just to be as fit and healthy as i can be my 1st priority...

Even if hrt didnt directly make me lose weight, without hrt i had severe insomnia and depression which made me sluggish and doughy. Just to be able to sleep more than.2 hrs straight and walk 2 miles makes me weep tears of joy.

I started HRT 10 mos ago. Was in natural menopause and then had ovaries removed and stuffered greatly after. Memory loss, rage, extreme fatigue, joint pain, headaches, sleep deprivation…I feel more myself everyday and have been able to restart an exercise and will focus on nutrition next. I did not gain nor did I lose weight, so the HRT was not a magic pill for me. But I have mental clarity and way less fatigue ( I went to crazy with two intense workouts per day and burned out) but I am back on track and will gradually increase my output this go around!

I also think HRT is important to avoid heart disease, dementia and osteoporosis in future.

So glad I found your channel! I am really struggling with maintaining weight after starting HRT and I am desperate for answers. I actually didn’t have weight issues before starting HRT, but was addressing other symptoms. Another super annoying side effect of HRT is my boobs got bigger and tender and make me look as if I gained even more weight. Ughh!😩

Menopause definitely affects where fat is deposited on the body, ie that unflattering apple shape. So surely HRT at least keeps the fat distribution looking more youthful?

I recently started taking estrogen and gained weight. I didn’t realize that estrogen caused weight gain.

I went on bhrt and had the capsule insterted once and my gyno took a testosterone blood test and my levels were dangerously high. I was so strong and lean but mentally and emotionally, i was extremely uncomfortable for months. I am terrified to ever do that again.

I've been waiting for this one for a good while now. I believe my first comment on the channel was a question about HRT.
Edit: I recently started Estrogen and Progesterone combined HRT and I gained weight immediately!

I was a healthy 127 lb until I began using the patch and progesterone after 2 years of miserable might sweats, brain fog, and anxiety. 20 lbs later and post menopausal, I can’t lose a single lb.

Suddenly at 51 I found it almost impossible to drop weight… I went on Oestrogen patches (should have been given progesterone but wasn’t) for other symptoms despite still having my monthlies. Unfortunately, they did not help at all with the weight side of things. I use to be able to drop weight so easily if I made the effort but not anymore. Then a year later, just over two and a half months ago, I had a full hysterectomy (including ovaries and cervix). I started testosterone (for the 2nd time) before the surgery and I am just now seeing an improvement in my energy levels after years of horrible fatigue that has left me bed-bound at times. As of yet I haven’t lost any weight, it’s still proving difficult and I’m so down about it. I have been going to the gym for the last month but my weight just refuses to move. I’ve tried every diet, way of eating you can think of. I love the gym so will continue to go but oh my it’s depressing. I’ve seen some doctors say progesterone is necessary in women who have had hysterectomies (it’s not normally given as it considered not necessary) and I have come to the conclusion that it must be beneficial. Apparently it is used by many parts of the body including the brain s9 why aren’t women who have had hysterectomies given it? I’m about to see if my consultant will allow me to take it. Apparently, its the hormone that helps with weight loss. I can’t see why it wouldn’t be needed in all menopausal woman, surely if you don’t have it you risk oestrogen dominance? The best thing about having had a hysterectomy is I wouldn’t need large amounts as I do not need to protect the lining of my womb so any risks would be much less than in woman taking the standard dose. If you see this Melissa, sorry it’s so long and a bit off topic. I certainly went on a rant. 😅I love your channel, you are such an inspiration! I’m considering joining your program.

I gained so much weight once I started HRT that I just recently stopped. I can’t take it anymore, I can’t fit clothes I can’t even walk because I’m in pain I tried to lower dose and it didn’t do any good so I just completely stopped it.

You know whats upsetting? My Dr told me it was normal to gain weight as we get older...im on estrogen patch and progesterone because insomnia and hot flashes are terrible.

After starting estrogen patch i gained 10 lbs in one wk. I guess it is water weight. I am still about 10lbs over my normal weight one year later. Still working out just as hard. Even not eating as much.
Very frustrating. I feel disgusting. My tummy is so much fatter. Although i feel better in other ways. Should i just hang in there and keep taking?

You always gain weight after a show anyway? Not sure why you're talking post show fat gain to lifestyle clients?
