Each district has completely different requirements. Gotta check on your dirstrict's website. Some require a bachelor degree. Some even require a tuberculosis exam.

I live in the Waco TX area and I'm trying to become a sub. You had logged observation hours with a permanent teacher when you started out? I'm wondering what part of Texas do you live in. Do many of the school districts in Texas have first time subs to observe the class with a permanent teacher or are Substitutes left with a paraprofessional to help guide them in the classroom. I already have a four year degree and I'm just trying to land a substitute job before becoming a certified teacher through the alternative certification program. I've taken a certification course for Substitutes and have contacted the school districts that I want to work in. Will administrators call you in and have you to observe a permanent teacher before putting you in the class and before you start orientation? This will be my very first time Substituting and I am trying to get a better understanding of the whole process of becoming a Substitute.
