What IS the best photography lens? The best portrait lens and best wedding lens might yield different results and opinions.

Here are my best photography lenses for best wedding photography lenses and best portrait lenses and omgosh I hate SEO because who talks like this anyway!?!?!?

Obviously, these are my best Canon Lenses for mirrorless and DSLR cameras, but there are similar equivalents with other brands. I love using these lenses because they work nicely in my workflow for real jobs, and they look pretty too... the photos that come out of them, not the lens itself. When the Canon R3 comes out I think I'll just start saying the camera itself is pretty because oh my goodness have you seen the body texture on that thing? Anyway, I digress. Enjoy these top photography lenses. :-)

Here's a video for the Best Canon Lenses: My TOP 5 Photography Lenses based on Real-world Experience. Let me know your TOP gears too.

Hope you enJoy!

50mm all day for me. Used to be 35 until I realized I was cropping most of the 35mm shots anyway. I’ll add a 28 if I bring another lens or on a 2nd camera. I prefer the cohesive look from just using a 50 though. The lack of perspective distortion keeps things looking natural.

Thanks, Vanessa! Loved this presentation :)! Your kids are DOLLS :)!! Also...just picked up the RF 85mm 2.0 and love it. And so happy to see you list the Canon 135mm f2 ~ one of my all-time faves, too!

I went on vacation to Cabo San Lucas a few years ago, and I only took a 50mm and 85mm lens with me. I got some of my most favorite pictures ever with the 50mm. I pulled out the 85mm a few times, but the 50mm did most of the work!!

135mm cow!! What and amazing lens!!!! I pull this lens out when I need to knock it out of the park!! One youtuber called it the "Lord Of The L Rings".

One of my most favorite lenses is the 100mm f2.

1:12 This is one of the most beautiful and perfect wedding photos I've ever seen. This is one for the wall. A gorgeous capture, perfectly composed, perfectly exposed, perfect DOF and everyone perfectly posed.

My current line up is 16-35 2.8, 50mm 1.2, and 70-200 2.8, waiting on that 100mm macro

Really enjoy Vanessa's videos, where she doesn't go into the tech side (brand S 105 f/Y.Z vs brand N f/A.B), but only what type of equipment she uses in any given situation, always clients/results oriented. Thank you

"Had to make it accessible to everyone, even if they don't have a flash." 😂 😆 If they bought that $3k lens and a $2k body and don't have a flash, something is very wrong!! 😂 Great video, though.

For versatility I would go with the 35. But even though it's not as versatile, if I had to go with 1 lens, I would pick a lens that produced wow photos. And thst for me is the 85. 1.2, 1.4, 1.8, whatever. It was the first lens where people looked at my photos and were wow. Photos that can't be replicated by a phone or cheap camera. 50 mm to me was just bland. Not wide enough for when you need wide, not special enough in portraits. Vanessa and others can make 50 sing. I never really could. The 135 is fantastic but you have to be so far away from the subject.

50mm and 24-70mm on two bodies for most of the day. I have the Nikon Z 50mm f1.2, which I use for everything I can and use the 24-70mm f2.8 when I can’t get the shot with the 50. Then I have the Z 105mm f2.8 Micro that I use triple duty for Macro, outdoor portraits and the ceremony when I cannot get close. All I need!

I'm using the 28-70 with an R6 for indoor sports photos and it's taken my photos to the next level. I just wish there was a telephoto version!

One lens that impressed me for run and gun pics and handheld video is the RF 24-105 f4 on my R6.
Ultra versatile, light, cheap and very sharp since the R6 can easily take high ISO. Id say it is the ultimate all around lens even for pros.

For street photography, I'm a big fan of 135mm and 50mm. 135mm is great for getting people on the other side of the street without disturbing them, and 50mm is a great all rounder.

Great video! Thanks as always for your helpful (and free!) content! What is the software we see in this video?

Great video. After a recent shoot I made a chart that covers how much every lens in my bag weighs. The weight of the kit is a factor. I have found that 15 pounds is about as much as I want to carry for a full day of running and gunning. If I have a crew in the budget or a location where I can set up the strobes and stay put, I'm happy to bring more. I hear you on the 135 f2.0. Sounds great. I do own the 100 mm f2.8 so it's hard to justify the 135. Also I quite like my 70-200 f2.8 as it is a hard working lens. I enjoy your videos because you provide the viewer with real world, practical notes. Have a great New Year.

I don't think that I have five favorite portrait lenses. But my present favorite portrait lens is the Voigtlander 58mm f1.4 Nokton, sometimes with a pro-mist filter for a dreamy effect. I'm presently shooting with a Nikon Z5, and this is the best combination I've ever tried. Love it, both the way the lens renders and the colors of the Nikon sensor.

When I shot with Canon I loved the 24-70mm f2.8 L zoom lens, basically used it for everything.

With the Fujifilm X-T3 I used the 18-55mm f2.8-4 "kit" lens. Did the job for most things really.

I've owned the 135 mm for ages but didn't use it a lot because of the lack of image stabilisation. I always had to use it at 1/320 sec or shorter because of shaky hands ... I even wanted to sell it. Now that I have the R6 with IBIS, this is no longer an issue and I don't need to sell it :-). At weddings I only use the 35 and 85 mm (and the 100 mm macro for details). The 70-200 is too heavy to carry all day. I used to own a 24-70 mm f2.8 but it broke down. Before, that was my favourite wedding lens.

I shoot Nikon and Fujifilm and have adapted the Canon EF 85mm 1.2 and EF 135mm to my Nikon and Fujifilm mirrorless cameras with the fringer adapter pro. And I can confirm that the Canon EF 135mm lens combined with a Fujifilm camera is the finest thing since sliced bread. In my honest opinion, the marriage of Canon glass and Fujifilm bodies is extraordinary.
