Hi everyone, today we're visiting Homeslice Pizza, in Covent Garden, place that many people rate very highly in London, some even claim it's the best pizza in the city. Today I'm going to put that to the test!
This branch of Homeslice is in a place called Neal's Yard, a very picturesque little alleyway in the area. They also have restaurants in Fitzrovia and Old Street.
It's a Saturday lunchtime so there's a reasonable 15 minute wait for our table of three.
The restaurant is quite rustic, with bench tables and the centrepiece is this amazing wood-fire oven which looks crazy hot.
So you can order by the slice or grab a 20 inch pizza, which is what we go for, getting half BBQ brisket with PICKLED CARROTS AND CELERY and half CHORIZO, CORN & CORIANDER.
As you can see these are thin-crust New York-style pizzas.
So the pizza is...well very, very good. The slices are really flavoursome and with probably just the amount of topping and cheese without one over-shadowing the other. Because its so thin too, you can probably have more than you think.
I would say that although thin, our pizza wasn't as crispy as other New York style pizzas I've had. Some parts of the pizza base was a bit floppy, while others were a bit former and crispier. That really didn't detract at all from the pizza, and there was the right amount of char underneath.
On the whole, I would definitely recommend Homeslice for a tasty, reasonably priced experience which even a non-pizza lover would really enjoy. Is it the best pizza in London, well I have to say it probably is the best I've tried so far! But I'll look forward to trying others in the near future to see if that holds true!
My verdict is: put Homeslice on your list!
