The World’s MOST Dangerous Airport!

Показать описание
Did you know about Madeira? 😏🤔
It’s an island full of surprises, and not just because it’s the birthplace of Cristiano Ronaldo. Even getting there is an adventure - landing at Madeira’s Cristiano Ronaldo Airport is known as one of the world’s trickiest! The runway is super short and literally stretches out over the ocean on 180 concrete pillars. Thanks to gusty crosswinds and mountainous surroundings, it often ranks among the world’s most intense airports to land at.
Once you’re on solid ground, Madeira has some equally wild experiences waiting for you. The island is crisscrossed by levadas, old irrigation channels that now form a 215-kilometer hiking network winding through lush landscapes and giving you a peek into its agricultural past.
For something truly unique, there’s the toboggan ride. Imagine flying downhill in a wicker basket! Started in the 1850s as a quick way for locals to get from the mountain down to the city, these baskets zip down at speeds of up to 30 km/h. It’s a one-of-a-kind ride. 🤗
And if you’re planning a hiking adventure, you can’t miss the “Staircase to Heaven” hike (this was my absolute favourite). This challenging trail, Vereda do Areeiro (PR1), connects Pico do Arieiro to Pico Ruivo, Madeira’s highest peak. Here’s a quick rundown:
* Trail Name: Vereda do Areeiro (PR1)
* Starting Point: Pico do Arieiro
* Ending Point: Pico Ruivo
* Distance: 9 km (one way)
* Duration: 3 to 4 hours (one way)
And yes, this is Ronaldo’s hometown, where his legacy is everywhere - from the museum dedicated to his career to the airport itself, renamed in his honor in 2016. Madeira really is an island where natural wonders meet iconic adventures!
